You know what I dont really get? Why some filipinos get so offended when someone calls them asian, and they reply in irritation "PACIFIC ISLANDER!!" (I have a few friends who do this, which is why I bring it up).
But the philippines are in the continent of asia, are they not? Technically Japan is an island in the pacific, new zealand is an island in the pacific, yet they dont call themselves pacific islanders. If someone
really wanted to, they could even call indians or other middle easterns Asian, because they're in the asian continent. Obviously, people think of asian as oriental though. But a lot of filipino people resemble other oriental nationalities physically, or they resemble mexicans/spanish people(mexicans being descendants from
asians and spanish white people). I mean, there's 7 continents in geography, and the pacific islands belong to one of them whether the land is connected or not.
I guess my point is that the Philippines are
both in Asia and Pacific Islands, so filipinos shouldn't get angry when they're called asian
or pacific islanders because they're both correct if I'm not mistaken. XP
