I think that before you tell him you like him you should start talking to him and get to know him a little.
i know that when you like someone it's hard to be patient but trust me when i say it's so much better to get to know someone as a friend first, that way you know if you're compatible and stuff so yeah just get to know him, that's what i'd say.
