Raising money for Japan, help!
please i really need help with thinking of ideas to raise money to go to japan.
one time last year me and my friend just went around our school asking for money like hobos but that only worked for about a couple weeks or something and we only got like $130.
going to japan would be like a dream come true for me. it would really make me the happiest i could pretty much ever be. if you asked my friends they could tell you XD
but i just would really love to be an exchange student over there and since my school doesnt offer it i am going to have to pay ALOT of money
can someone help me out with some ideas maybe?
thanks

Re: can someone help me?
Back when I was in high school, we had to raise money to go swimming with dolphins and we did a series of fundraisers that were spread throughout the year.
- Car washes
- Food stalls (everyone cooked/baked something and we sold it at school)
- Garage sale (people made clothes/jewellery or sold things they no longer needed)
Goodluck~

Re: can someone help me?
okay, the yearbook team at my school earned LOADS of money from the Ozark (?) lollipop fundraiser. They're these giant lollis (not that big actually.. sort of like a tootsie pop) that came in a whole bunch of cool flavors (flaming melon, sour mandarin orange, strawberry daiquiri) and I know they made a lot of money, even though I wasn't even in yearbook. They sold for 50 cents a lolli, which is a lot for one, but people would bring in like, five dollar bills to buy 10 at a time and everything. I know I bought at least five a week! haha..

Re: can someone help me?
You could
-Have a Bake Sale (food always attracts people)
-A Car Wash (well that is if it is not cold outside)
-Send letters out to different organizations and see if they would help pay
-Work part-time and then just use that money to pay.
-Yard Sales
-Ask relatives to donate to your cause (lol that works with me )
-scholarships (there are some for that)
Hmm....are you absolutely positive your school does not offer these type of trips? If they don't maybe your city does. Or, you could try and see if other schools do that and then ask if you could join them.
I also think that if you can find a reputable site that offers educational trips to other countries, your school would allow you to go and might help pay (or at least think of ways). I mean, what better way for them to get a better reputation, right?

Re: can someone help me?
If your in highschool don't they send you to japan with the study abroad program. Isn't it only like 200 bucks. I might be wrong so it's best to look up the prices. I think you need atleast a C average. But since your school doesn't offer them your state probably will. Atleast ask your school consaler or something.
But since you need to raise money why don't you go to the craft store and pick up some beads and other things ans make kawaii jewelry and sell it online! or if your good at sewing make cute clothes or arm sleeves or hats and sell them online. Thats always pretty good money. People are always looking for new things to add to their wardrobe for cheap ^^

You could also see if your school has a " Sister School." I believe thst most high schools do. A sister school is basically snother school in some other country that if or when you decide to study there, you are sent to that school. Our's was set in Takaoka.
I think it's worth a shot to look

or try selling some of your stuff... like my boyfriend always sells his old dvds and books and cds and you can make quite a bit of money doing that if they're still in good condition

Re: Raising money for Japan, help!
If I were you, I would look up to see if the deadline to go with People To People student ambassadors has already passed in your area, it's a two week trip during the summer.
http://www.studentambassadors.org/de.../2009/asia.asp
Even if it already passed, you could still probably go. A lot of people get lots of money donated to them by governors and other influential people through sponsorships. There is lots of fund raising as well. Oh, plus scholarships. I know I wouldn't be able to go on my own, so this is a great opportunity for me ^^
I know you aren't really asking for this exactly, but check it out! You will have lots of direction in it, plus it's worth a high school credit from the Washington School of Social Studies (or Sciences, I forget.)
I am hopefully going with People to People this summer, my interview is this coming Sunday =) If you want more information you can ask, but since this may not be what you want...

How old are you? Are you old enough to get a job yet? You could raise the money a lot faster and rewarding if you have a job! =)

Re: Raising money for Japan, help!
Since you're currently located in the US, I was able to do a quick search for Texas. You're able to be accepted into the Rotary International Club or Rotary Foundation International Exchange Program.
You can check it out here: http://www.rotary.org/
The problem you may find though is the requirement of doing presentations and club meetings. Since the number of presentation, before the trip, during and after are many. And each club has individual standards, but there are many in Texas. And one of their work loads you may be able to manage during the summer or when you homework load goes down.
If you're willing to do a research paper and are willing to draft a proposal there are many groups willing to sponsor young students. As well as during various times of the year so you could spend some time as an exchange student or on a short visitors visa.
I'll post again with a compiled link list of information on being sponsored, raising money, etc. for you soon. Good luck, I hope you're able to get to Japan. =D

Re: Raising money for Japan, help!
Let's see if I can think of anything:
-garage sale
-bake sale
-baby/petsitting
-ask family what you can do around the house for money (that's what I always do)
Sorry but that's all I can come up with. Luck getting the money that you need.

haha its not like 200 bucks more about 8300 sumthing. I looked into it. In my school the exchange progam avaliable lets you have scholar ships but since you guys dont have one in ur school you should maybe try toturing ppl. It pays like $20 an hour o.0

Re: can someone help me?
I know the thought of waiting is probably painful (it was for me), but it would probably better to wait awhile. That way, you have a job and are making steady money, in addition to whatever you can raise from fundraising. I reccomend going with a school or an official study abroad program (check sites like studyabroad.com), as there will be more scholarships available, and people will probably be more willing to donate. Plus, fundraising could be easier, as there would be a group of you working toward the same goal.
If it takes awhile, don't sweat it. I've been wanting to go to Japan for years, and I think I'm finally getting to go this time, through my community college. It's only 3 weeks, but it's pretty inexpensive for what I'll be doing, and I'm also accomplishing that goal I've had in mind for years.

Re: Raising money for Japan, help!
You don't need 8000 dollars for a trip to Japan, unless you plan on staying at a posh hotel or something. I live even further away, and the plane trip is only 1500 (economy of course). Then you could cut back a lot by staying at a capsule hotel (they're something like 10-15$/night), or at a public bathhouse (they also have rooms for the cheapo) or at a student hostel. Eat by getting simple cheapo food from convenience stores - bulk stuff like loaf of bread plus huge packet of cheese, and a jug of milk - no fancy stuff $(or at least for morning and evening, you could still save several lunches for trying out cool japanese cuisine). All in all, 3000 dollars is enough for like 10 days, with some money for spending as well factored in.
My question is - would your parents let you travel to Japan on your own? At 15 you're a bit too young to be traveling alone half way across the world. I raised these money by my self, by having a job for 9 months, plus a year's scholarship money saved 100%. I was suppose to go this October, but I couldn't anymore since school started earlier then I thought.

Re: Raising money for Japan, help!
ah if you' re only 15 i would say wait a few years.
wow $130 by just asking people ? xD;;;
i say the best way by far is to get a job.
you get good money and you don't have to spend time thinking about how to get money.
also you wanna go by yourself/friends ?
15 is a little too young hmm i think
why not wait 'til you're a little older, and have saved up more money ?
japan will (probably) always be there for you C;
also, i suggest going for 2,3 weeks or more. there is a lot to do, really. so save up that money so you can stay there longer 8D
ps. i went this summer with two friends (at age 18) and it was SO.MUCH.FUN. haha
