Default Anime Club HELP!!

I want to start an anime club in my area but I don't know how or what place I should rent so that we can meet every week. I don't want it at school, or the library, they already have theres but there not good enough.

So I want to know what other places could ask to host my anime club?

A local communnity centre pherhaps? Why don't you start one at your school and do it right? Local coffee shops(not Starbucks!!) are pretty nice and calm too. I wouldn't rent out a space, do you know people who would come and how many? what if you tell your local community centre to have an anime night where kids come and watch moviesour talk about the graphic novels? If you have enough kids I'm sure they'd do it. Good-luck, and tell me how it goes!

Ah mah gad.
I'm in charge of the anime club at school and it's hell. I have a lot of cool ideas the only thing that's problematic is whether people participate or not. Very few participate in the games we do.

And every other meeting I give them a ballot where they circle an anime to watch. That's how we decide what to watch.

The events are: Jrock/pop fest where (since it's at lunch at school) 30 minutes of music videos

Bingo (or actually Naruto [n-a-r-u-to]) with character faces as the bingo spots

Comedy day, tell lame anime themed jokes.

Charades

Jeopardy anime themed

singing conest

amv contest

art contest

and other stuff

http://web.mit.edu/anime/www/starting-a-club.html
^how to start an anime club^

I hope I helped
maybe we can exchange ideas too!

Ugh...
Last year friends and I started an anime club at school,
but it was totally lame -
people are only interested in mainstreem series like Naruto, FMA, Bleach, ect ;
It was the most annoying thing ever.
*big newfag here, hahaha*
It's still going on this year,
but I don't plan on being there often.

One of the only things that attracted a lot of new people..
was DDR contests u_____u
Those where fun, but.. ugghh~
We tried cosplay days - since everyone knows a friend of mine and I cosplay,
but that was...
...terrible. So fusturating.
Most of the time we just ended up drawing u_______u

Totally lame.

I reallyreallyreally hope you aren't doing this all by yourself!
If so... ;3;
Make sure you know that people will come,
or else you'll sadly just be wasting your time.

Also I think it's going to be... odd having, what,
four anime clubs in your area then?
Why don't you just try and help with another one -
having helped with three clubs myself,
I know that people are always looking for opinions.

For keeping track of members we had a spreadsheet that time,
but I like the idea of everyone having a sheet/id/thing,
and filling it out each time they come.

*edit, idea

If there is a store that sells comics/manga and anime
maybe you can see if they want to sponser you,
and/or use the store as a meet-up place!
That would be awesome ^^
There is a little comic store that sells manga in my area,
and they are the just the nicest people!
Plus that would give you a lot of info on new series and all.

I print out a sign in sheet and what I do is have my mom make copies at her work so it won't cost me a dime.

I bring about 2 per meeting and pass one on each side of the room and then when it's done, I count.

I also have a separate form for them to fill if they want a discount card to our sponsor anime store (only in California) and it requires them to fill out their e-mails so I also have their e-mails if I need or want to contact them.

I would suggest getting a website too like from freewebs.com and a forum at proboards.com
which is what we did...it's still underconstruction so not a lot of people check out the site

oh, and for fundraising we sell Boba drinks at school. We profit 50 cents but that's better than nothing, right?

Good luck!

Oh and just to let you know, the only time when we have a full house is when we have video game tournaments (i.e. supersmash brothers, halo, etc.)

if it helps any, get a teacher involved. They can usually help with ideas, give you space to hold the club, and even help with things like funds and getting you more involved with the school and getting the word out to students.

My highschool had a Japanese club and although there WERE lotsa stupid annoying mainstream american anime fans there, there were a lot of other people who did have in interest in other things besides anime....like food and culture. And those people got the anime-only people involved and eventually helped them become interested in more than just Cartoon Network animes lol

The teacher who helped us was half Japanese and she helped us plan events, we participated in the homecoming parade with a Momotaro themed float, she helped plan food days where we'd bring in authentic food and cook it together. There were karaoke parties, and more. It was a lot of fun^^

so yeah, the more help you can get the better! If you can find a teacher to "sponser" your club, it's a huge help for getting things done around school and for new ideas.

good luck with things!

In my area, we have an anime store and they have like, a group room that they rent out for people to have clubs and such meet there on certain days. Maybe find a place like that?

Oh thanks for the ideas everyone!! yeah it turns out my school got rid of their anime club some time ago >_>. So I e-mailed them to try and start a new one.

I really do want to do other things besides see anime in the club, I also want to bring a lot of the japanese culture into it.

I was also planning to have club dues, is that okay? I mean the club has to have some money if we want to save up for going to anime conventions, or doing things like MiyaBi_Na suggested.

Those tips really helped blah blah cookie cutter, REALLY, REALLY, helped. We do have anime stores here, but the nearest one is 30 minutes away. I don't know if they have discounts, but I do know we could rent from there ^_^.

Oh and about the sponser, since im trying to get this at school now I really do need a sponser.

Yeah! I got an e-mail back from my school club adviser, she said that all I had to do was get a sponser and the club is on.

I already have in mind a teacher thats really cool, so I hope she says yes. Sadly im a bit worried because im a pretty new student there and have only known her for 2 days lol.

Be like
"Hello, my name is__________, and I was wondering if you are interesting in lending me your room and equipment to host my Anime Club."

Maybe she'll be like "What's anime"

"Anime originates from Japan and literally means Animation. In other words, they are cartoons in a style that was popularized from Japan"

What are you gonna do to my room? or what do you need me for?

"I was hoping you would be interested in be comming a sponsor for this very unique interest club. By becoming a sponsor you will support us, but you don't have to give time or money to us. As president of this interest club, I assure you that all responsiblity for this club will be in my hands."

Lol.....

I tried saying that to the teacher that we were holding the room in but it was like

"I was wondering if you wanted to host the Anime club in here"
"What's anime"
"Japanese Animated Cartoons"
"Sure"
"Uh...don't you have anyquestions?"
"Nah it's fine!"
"Um...don't you wanna know more about it?"
"Nah it's fine!"
"Um......you don't wanna know like the things we're gonna do?"
"Nah it's fine!"
"um...well then, I'm __________ i'll be in charge of it, [shakes hand] and um...Thanks???"

LOL sooooo awkward she didn't ask anything but it was cool

make sure they know like the content if they're gonna be violence or swearing (lol)

We were watching cowboy bebop and the guy was like "Sonuvabitch!"
and she's like "What the hell is this?!" In a joking way....I hope.

Very awesome story ^-^. Yeah my journalism teacher knows what anime is, shes pretty cool. I asked her, and she said that she would think about it. I think she hasn't talked to me about about it since because I asked her when it was the deadline for the paper. She wasn't in the mood at all lol.

I wish my teacher knew what anime is. Me and my friends are starting a Japanese, Manga and Anime club at school. Our school has a Japanese exchange so hopefully somebody will come. If not it means we have a classroom all to ourselves during lunch every friday. ^^
