Default Sewing?

*~.:{|x.x.x|}:.~*

I have really cool ideas for sewing things (&cosplay etc.) &
I am so jealous of all you people who know how to sew.
No one I know knows how and can teach me.
I think my grandma does a little...
My grandpa used to be a tailor but he lives on the other
side of the country. I have a sewing machine though.
It's just missing a bobbin.
Anyway, how did you all learn how to sew?
Any tips/help?

Uhmm, honestly, i think i learned by just watching my grandma.
I remember the first time i learned was when i wanted to make a little dress for my favourite doll, so I just watched my grandma sew something, and tried to sew my own things.

it didn't look all that great so I don't do much sewing, i'm usually sewing things onto things. I would sew a bow or something onto a shirt that would look cute if it came with one when i bought it.

I'm thinking about making stuff though =P
my grandmother just bought herself a sewing machine, and i want try and make a skirt for a get up I'm putting together for Halloween.
=P
I don't have any tips really... but i don't think sewing is THAT hard.

I started out when I was seven, and I made a purse xD;; It was really just two rectangles sewn together with a strap, but I thought it was awesome. I learned a little from my mum, and I get tips from the internet. It kinda just falls together then more you practice. Try buying a simple shirt or skirt pattern and make it with a cheap fabric. It's best to learn hands on ^^ Any terms that you don't understand, google!

I self taught myself. There were times we sewn in school, but that was just practicing how to use a sewing machine.

As long as you have the machine, you can definitely do it! Last year my friends were doing a Sailor Moon group for Halloween. They were all ordering their costumes, but somehow I was Princess Kakyuu and there wasn't a costume on ebay I could just order. So somewhere along the lines I decided to make it. I didn't have any experience sewing. I borrowed my friend's machine, she showed me how to thread it, and the rest was just through experimentation and practice, and I ended up making a whole dress myself (and getting addicted along the way). If you want, you can probably find some books at the library. I know there are a lot at mine. Also, when I use a pattern it looks a lot nicer, so you might want to get one of those. You just have to take the jump, and you'll definitely be able to do it.

I'm not REALLY good at sewing, but if I put in effort, whatever I make can come out looking pretty nice. I do plan on practicing a lot more in these years to come, which is what I think is they key. If you just get some nice patters and study them, then practice, practice, practice, I'm sure you can be great at it too.GL!!

Thanks for the info.
I can sew things onto other things, but not actually make anything from a piece of fabric. Library is a good idea!

Take a sewing class at your local community college. That's how I learned!

You can always take sewing lessons. My friend did that with her mom and now she just buys regular pants and turns them into skinny jeans when she can't find any that she likes.
