10% increase on Registered Airmail shipments
Dear Jammers,
I would like to announce that effective today, shipping rates for Registered Airmail is up by 10%. There is no change in Express shipping rates.
As we all know, fuel prices are escalating. As a result, shipping companies have increased their logistic rates. When the rates were increased somewhere around mid 2007, AsiaJam was reluctant to join in the price hikes. We thought, if we lost a little more, that's OK as long as our customers are happy with our low rates. However, it's been almost 1 year since the price hike and AsiaJam had a review on areas which were losing most money. It has been brought to our attention that if we do not increase our shipping rates, AsiaJam will be losing a significant amount of money. The large amount is something we no longer can afford to subsidize. The more funds we use to subsidize shipments, the lesser stock we can bring in.
We would like to remind our valued Jammers that shipping rates have been re-calculated to cover the postage charges. We still do not charge on handling fees and packing materials to keep our shipping rates as low as possible. AsiaJam still remains as one of the lowest shipping charger on the internet for international shipments.
Thanks for understanding!! Fuel price hikes are such a bummer

Ah, it's okay. The USPS already increased their prices a long time ago, I'm surprised that Asiajam just started to raise theirs.
I wonder about planes, oil is the best way to fuel them...or is there an alternative? Could it possibly run on solar power effectively as well? o_o

Yes.. it's really taking a toll on everyone. If you've read Cool's post on the Malaysian fuel prices going up 40% effectively today, you can just imagine how that's going to affect every industry here. I won't be surprised if Pos Malaysia revises their shipping rates yet again.. And if they do, AsiaJam will have to revise ours again too My sister was telling me she is no longer taking the car out on weekends. Sadly though, public transportation in Malaysia is appalling.

Pos Malaysia too. AsiaJam was just too stubborn but we've finally yielded.. The hikes are just toooo much to bear.
I don't know about solar power but I read somewhere once that there is an alternative energy for planes but the reason why it's not being used is because it has conflicting interests with BIG oil companies. I don't know if that alternative energy would be cheaper though.
If it's any consolation, I read that Airbus pledges to make greener planes by 2020.

Suprisingly, I don't mind the 10% increase. I usually buy in $25-$60 range and that just went from $11.90 to $13 something and I don't think it's that much.
But still: darn fuel prices. They just keep getting worse and worse (not as bad as the Malaysian prices though).

That's ok asiajam! I'm sure we won't stop buying from you guys, because you carry lots of cute clothes that we can't get anywhere else. X3
I feel the effect of raising gas prices. ;3; Less money for clothes, more money for gas...

if it is a 10% increase then it wont make much of a difference
anywayz.. as long as we get cute and unique clothes
we're willing to pay for shipping no matter how high the rates go !!
p.s : it is not fair increasing the rates of feul !!! it is hard for many people
to make a living and live comfortably.. now they're making it even harder for eveyone!!

Re: 10% increase on Registered Airmail shipments
Hey guys, I am actually HAPPY about the gas prices skyrocketing. Trust me, this is going to be a good thing.
The world is addicted to OIL, and it's this slick, slimy, black substance that's choking our planet, creating all kinds of health hazzards and killing the wild lifes, raising the temperature, which in turns changes the weather, and intruducing some nasty typhoons that kills 100,000s of ppl and creates lots of chaos.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg (speaking of iceberg, the north pole will lose all it's ice this summer)...
And the only way to cut the umbilical cord of this slimy oil, is if it's choking our wallets. In a few years time, we'll have electric cars, and then soon, governments will start to move towards 'free, effective, and clean energy' like solar, etc.
You basically suffer for a few years to get to a better place.
As for planes, Katz, I think that may take a while to change. The technology is just not there yet.. maybe they can power it using hydrogen.. I don't know... perhaps... but planes can't run on batteries because batteries just can't store enough power for it..
Remember, about 80% of fuel are used by cars, so if we all change to electric cars, the planet will be green again, and your bill will go down about 80% because electricity from your home is cheaper... (it's currently generated from coal)... but eventually it'll be generated thru solar and other means.

Higher rates are a bummer, but it looks like AsiaJam is doing it's best to accommodate us. Thanks, guys.
