I think after years of research, there are only 2 real CURES for acne:
1. Ro-Accutante
This is oral medication in the form of a pill. This pill is extremely powerful and have HUGE side-effects such as drying of your body but the dryness sort of go away once you stop taking the pills. You need to see a dermatologist about this. Ask all the questions first, especially weight the risk of 'side effects' vs 'getting rid of acne'.
How it works? Basically, the root cause of acne is 'accessive oil produce by over active glands' in some people. Ro-accutante attacks this problem by going to the root cause, ie, killing some of the oil glands. The course is about 3-6 months, i think, then you're cured. Maybe, have to take anothe course sometimes in the future.
The reason i know this works is because i have had acne for toooo many years, and literally NOTHING works, tried it all, but roaccutante cured me. I didn't complete the course (because i can't take the side effects) but it already cured 90% of my acne. Nowadays, i get one or two once a while.

Here's a more complete link to answers on roaccutante:

2. Laser. This is a very new method that does the same thing as above, ie, kill the oil glands (doesn't really kill, but suppresses the glands), but it does it topically, on the acne areas only so the side effects of drying does not occur on the whole body. This technology is not widely available. I don't know where it actually is.

Be sure you talk to the right Dermatologists, don't ever go to a 'beautician clinic' as they will 'destroy your skin' touting all kinds of treatments that can be more harmful than helpful.

Honestly, I have to say I don't trust the medical establishment, or any sort of prescription drug, for anything. :? But that's just me. I do know of a reaaaaally fantastic, 100% natural skincare line, though. Here: http://www.celestialbody.com/shop/me...ml?3GlRBX5yn2E Everything at that store is aaaaawesome, I use almost everything and it works really well. I especially think that the 'Zitz Herbal Face Rinse' would work for you, since it's made to NORMALIZE overactive oil glands, instead of destroy them. It still works. Very nicely, I might add.

I don't have a LOT of acne, but when I do get pimples they're of the really horrid cystic-painful sort. I'm on tetracycline (which really helps me). I tried proactiv and noticed a slight improvement in that I didn't get many smaller pimples, but I think it made my pores big... @_@ Right now I use Avene products, which are really nice. Facials are a big help, I think. Good luck! I feel your pain.

I just use the Clearasil pads once in the morning and once at night and I've only had a 'zit' once in my life. I dunno if it's those pads or just the way my skin is...

Yeah, that'd probably be the best thing. That way they can prescribe something a lot stronger than over the counter stuff. :?

I have this whole ritual, firstly I keep my skin hydrated and clean by using moisture-rich soap made for your face, I think the brand I use is Almay. I also have a facewash made especially for acne. And every so often I do a mask, like Mint julep or something. Then I apply astringent (this blackhead astringent i have is nice and mild) with a tissue. Then I make a mixture of acne medicine/cream stuff and moisturizer with SPF and apply it to my face, then let it dry and be on your way ^_^ And overnight, put on acne cream.
I used to have HORRIBLE acne on my forehead and cheeks and it's all gone now! 'Cept for the occasional breakouts. Hehe.
