Epilators
It's an alternative to shaving and waxing. It's a little machine with rotating tweezers.
I never got one til recently because I was afraid of the pain, but it was really worth it. I'm too wimpy to wax and shaving makes my skin irritated so this is much better.
However I have a few tips to reduce the pain:
1) Never, ever use the slower setting. It hurts much more because you can feel the individual pluckings. The fast setting gives more of a vague pain.
2) Always make sure the skin is warm. Ignore advice to use ice, it just makes the skin more sensitive to pain and makes the hairs harder to pull out. Hairs will come out much easier and less painfully on warm skin.
3) Exfoliate beforehand to make the hairs come out easier. Stretching the skin as you go helps too.
I'm off to do my legs. Wish me luck >_<

Re: Epilators
This is so funny!
I was looking up epilators just last evening!
Please let us know how it goes.
Like you my skin gets severely irratated during shaving (I've tried it all girls! and yes I use a fresh rasor every 3-4 shavings), and I get very red, swollen and tears in my skin from waxing
My leg hair is not coarse and thick, but its definately not thin either.
Do you have thin leg hairs? I am trying to figure out if it works on girls with darker, slightly thicker (meany the hair not the bushyness! lol) hair.

Re: Epilators
Hm, yeah, I'd say the individual hairs on my legs are quite thick. Each time I use the epilator they get thinner though.
If I shave, I get 'stubble' after about 9-12 hours, but after using the epilator it's about...one week or so.
It take me a long time to do my whole legs with it, but it save time in the long run because for each time I use it, it saves at least 5 shaves.

Re: Epilators
aww i too have Braun Silkepil ^^ ~ i'm soo afraid to do it, i've done it maybe tow times and on slowest setting haha ~ maybe i should skip the slow part =P
and i've never done my whole leg..aww, the armpit realllly scares me, it hurts even if i think about it ( i've never tried it hehe ~)
but i get scared when i hear the sound >.<
it's much easier to get your legs waxed TwT but epilating would really save me some money though >.<
ahh ~ it's the same amount of pain as waxing imo... but i dunno why i'm so scared of it hehe ~
thank you for advices =D next time i'll try with the fastest setting ^^~

Re: Epilators
CoffePrincess: Try it fast and let it whirr for a while before putting it to your skin, maybe it'll desensitize you to the sound a bit. I got used to mine growling at me.
I did a really stupid thing today, I couldn't work out why it suddenly hurt so much. Then I realised I had only clicked it up to slow, but thought I'd clicked it to fast. Soooo much better after that.
Never tried my armpits, I don't think I will...But shaving doesn't irritate them like my legs so I don't need to ^^;

Re: Epilators
I was about to buy one from superdrug the other day but I was too much of a wimp to get it ;__;
I just think of the contraption singulary plucking each of my leg hairs out >o<;;
So how was it?
Did you manage to epilate the whole of your legs?

Re: Epilators
i really want to buy an epilator but it seems like every single one i research, for every 10 girls that say it's the most amazing thing ever there are 15 that hate it. so i can't decide which to buy :/
i have a really high pain tolerance so i'm so ready to just try one of these already!

Re: Epilators
kat*: The thing rotates really fast, so you can't feel individual hairs come out. It's a very different kind of pain.
I've done my whole legs except the ankles, I struggle with those the most >_<

Re: Epilators
I have a Braun Silk-épil Xpressive Wet & Dry.
I use it on my legs and under my arms. The first few times it did hurt, but oh well. It's not that bad. xD

Re: Epilators
Oooh! I also have Silkepil! I don't really like to use epilators coz it hurts so much more than waxing. And sometimes, the hairs kinda get cut off, the roots aren't able to totally pull out; resulting to very spiky and rough skin! Lol.When you use the slower mode of the epilator, it really hurts more. Maybe it's just the method of touching the epilator to the skin? Hmm, I don't know. But in my experience, it hurts.
I found a waxing salon near my area and I haven't used the epilator since. The salon uses cold wax and it doesn't need a cloth where you add the hot wax on the skin and place the cloth. It's not like that. The cold wax is like some kind of a super sticky mixture (there's honey and sugar) and you just add water and apply it onto your skin and pull it off quickly. Imagine using duck tape as the cold wax. The pain is actually addicting. I got used to it.
I almost forgot. Don't wet your skin for at least 4 hours after waxing or using the epilator. It may cause skin irritations especially to sensitive skin so be careful!~
Hope this helps!
