The perfect fairy cakes :) Easy baking for beginners
PERFECT for a Lolita teaparty!!
Most other places have cupcakes, but in England we have fairycakes!
smaller and a little moister(i think ^^) than cupcakes, fairycakes are adorable, and have such a cute name! Also i can guarantee this cake mix tastes gorgeous before you bake it! yummmm :P
Really easy to make, and great if you havent really baked before :]
so you need:
4 & 1/2 ounces of: margarine, white caster sugar, self raising flour
2 eggs
1-2tsp vanilla essence
1. first, beat the margarine so its nice and fluffy and lovely, and add the sugar, creaming it all together
2. then, add the flour bit by bit. Add some flour, then before mixing in, add one of the eggs, then mix. repeat this til all the flour and eggs are gone this method prevents it from curdling, which makes the mixture heavier, and not as fluffy.
3. Then, add the vanilla essence mixing well.
4. divide the mixture into 12 bun tin baking tray
5. put into oven, gas mark 6
6. cook for 10-15 mins or until golden brown and springy on top <3
7. then to ice them!:
4 oz icing sugar
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon or orange juice
mix together, adding a little juice at a time, until you form a thick consistency which is easy to spread, and spread onto the cooled fairy cakes, topping with sprinkles, or a glacé cherry for added cuteness.
The juice is optional, and tastes just as good when made with the same amount of water.
Hope this works well for you guys, this is a really good recipe for beginners and has lots of room for making it your own, with adorable decorations and such.

Hooray for English fairy cakes! I can't wait to try this recipe. Anything I can decorate with obnoxious amounts of pink frosting, sprinkles, and sugar flowers is the best!!!
<_<...>_>
*sneaks ice cubes and a whole cupful of sugar into her tea*

sounds oh so cute.
I've been wanting to have a little lolita party and was having trouble thinking of food.

Two questions though.
Is vanilla essance also vanilla extract?
And what is the temperature for gas mark 6?
Sorry.
I was just confused!

pretty much yeah, we just call it essence in england :P its like a liquid and smells really strongly of vanilla and you can normally find it near the food colourings in a similar sized bottle :P
gas mark 6 =400°F =200°C :]
hope this helps
ooooh also, i did some yesterday, and if you were having a sweet loli teaparty a tiiiiiiiiny bit of red colouring makes a lovely pink icing
happy cooking
