well i have no idea what you are quoting, but that is hilarious. i guess a lot of filipino people call themselves pacific islander without knowing pacific islander doesn't apply to them? i don't get why, though, since it's still and island in the pacific. people are weird @___@

Weird... my Filipino friends all call themselves Pacific Islanders lol o_o But the Korean section sounds good ^_^

Also.. you can't really call yourself North American, unless you're talking nationality or have a Native origin because NA is so multicultural. For Canada, there are even rumors that the Natives migrated from Asia passing Alaska into Canada long ago. That's why they resemble some of the minority Asian groups so much. I was never into Canadian history back so I dunno any about the history in the states either sorry >_>

asia is multicultural too, but people call themselves asian

If there's something where I have to bubble in my ethnicity sometimes Asian and Pacific Islander get crammed together... I dunno. I agree a Korean part of the forum might be nice, but then again, why don't we just have a WORLD FORUM with Subforums for continents and then in each subforum a thread on the countries in that continent/region?

i'm from scotland and when people say "asian" over here, they're referring to pakistani/indian folk... i wouldn't call myself asian, but scottish chinese ^^ ..i think there's too much pressure for people to label themselves as part of a group/identity. you are what u say u are, not what ppl think is a good "fit".

but yes i agree, there shud be a korean section here!

ooo! i heard that in the UK asian refers to middle eastern or indian people.. hmm is this because there not a lot of chinese/japanese/korean/etc. asians in europe? haha sorry i have no idea =_=;

hmm im not sure thats the reason, because the chinese community in glasgow is huge. most people wud just call anyone who looks chinese (whether they b japanese/korean) oriential/chinese. thats gonna bug me now! i have to find out! lol :!:

I'm filipino too, but I've always considered myself asian. I guess because my mom just says asian while referring to herself...

I've gotten people go, "You're not asian." to me too. But... I don't know, I think that filipinos could be considered both asians and pacific islanders. They kinda go together? I'm just confused.

Whenever I have to fill in forms for school, I fill in the bubble called Asian/Pacific Islander. And that solves all my problems! 8)

Back on topic...

I think adding a Korean section would be neat.

Well, Taiwan and Japan are islands on the Pacific Ocean too, or at least near it. And they aren't called Pacific Islaners. =O

I'm Filipino too, and I once considered myself an Asian-Pacific Islander...until I got out my geography book and did a close study on the Pacific Islands region. XD

Neh, I just consider myself as a Southeast Asian now.
