Stupid English homework... USA vs. Canada
As some of you might remember, I'm doing a project on Canada in English right now. Well, I realize it's kinda late to ask now, but I've always been such a procrastinator anyway...
Well, tomorrow I'll have to write an essay called "Why I would rather live in Canada" (such a lame title, lol, but the teacher has decided...). I'm allowed to bring notes. And now I'm wondering if you could help me... again
Why is Canada a better country than the U.S.? That's basically it. It might not seem like a typically hard task, but all the reasons I can come up with are reasons I don't know enough about to write 3 - 4 pages about. Like the government and politics, etc. And are there for instance more pollution in the U.S. than in Canada? Or... can you think of any reasons other than the government issue? Everything would be sooo appreciated! I aim to get the best mark possible!

Re: Stupid English homework... USA vs. Canada
There is waaay less population so I guess less pollution? I think it is prettier also... We have more natural resources like trees and water... and more land.
We have free healthcare It is more multicultural and accepting of other cultures. Also we have a really great music scene!!! Canada is well known for its indie music scene <3 <3 <3
Also we have Tim Hortons which is a coffee place and if they didn't teach you that about Canada you are missing out. haha

This is so typical - my internet decided to commit suicide shortly after I posted this thread, so I couldn't read your replies until just now... several hours after I've taken the test. Oh well. I think I did awful xD

So true, so true. Who knows, I might even end up studying there in a year or so. I've only got this year left of high school, after all~

Re: Stupid English homework... USA vs. Canada
I am American but as an American I can give you pointers as to why I would rather live their than here:
Less Gun Violence
Free Health care
I am not liking our current political situation
that is all I can think of right now.
I wouldn't say it is more multicultural and more accepting of cultures than the US. That just depends on where you go here, and I'm pretty sure there is racism in Canada too.

Of course, we read sooo much about it. I should've mentioned it, but in stead I wasted two hours on blabbering on about democracy and how there are more major political parties in Canada than the U.S. and thus a more well-developed democracy... I mean, wtf!? I don't even feel like I know enough about the politics in those two countries to discuss which is the most democratic. And what's worse, I knew about this test for a week, and I did nada research... Plus, I only wrote two pages. I know my teacher would have wanted me to write more like four o_O

Re: Stupid English homework... USA vs. Canada
well... we have more choices, right? so you were right there (:
like, i think there's about four or five major political parties right now. only three popular ones though.
emphasising cailey's post on tim hortons.
BRING IT UP IN CLASS OR SOMETHING. it's become an icon of our culture. plus it unites young and old. the local timmies is the place to be for anyone between the ages of 6 and 69.
plus their donuts are really cheap. and yummy too.
/timmies is my favourite. i could go on.
plus the environment is very important to most canadians. david suzuki is from british columbia (:
(if you don't know who he is i suggest you find out. he's the favourite).
PLUS BEAVERS ANYONE?
CUTEST CANADIAN ANIMAL RIGHT AFTER THE MOOSE.
(actually i have a backpack i bought for like $15 on a school trip to quebec. it's a plushie moose and it says canada all over the pouches. save for the patch that says quebec on it. it's my favourite backpack and i wear it everywhere's except for school because it's a childs backpack so my books don't fit. PICTURES TOMORROW EHEN I'M NOT HALF ASLEEP).

Re: Stupid English homework... USA vs. Canada

we don't have enough pride.
sometimes all you need is a souvenir store
//i saw a preview for the new war movie,
i told my friend i wanted to see it,
he was like,
"the only movie ever made about canada in the war?
yeah me too."
morale of my story: canada was in wwI and wwII,
and there are few (commercial) movies aboout it,
NEED SOME PRIDE UP IN HURRR.
(btw movie i was talking about is called Passchendaele)
