Re: Have you ever been called wannabe Asian?
As far as I know I've never been called a wannabe Asian. Most of the time I get mistaken for a real Asian girl. I'm 100% Northern European... :/ I don't know...
That might be why they don't call me a wannabe Asian. But I LOVE Asian food and anime and fashion. It's just so much cooler and more unique than American stuff. XD

Re: Have you ever been called wannabe Asian?
Like above, I am usually mistaken as Asian.
So, not really. But I have been asked by people if I wished I was Japanese.
In a sense, Yes. I wish I was born in JAPAN. But I think they always meant if I wished to be Asian. And I am very happy being who I am. I usually yell at those who say that to me, because I like being white and im a proud Italian/Hungarian.

O______O
That's like my friends ,sort of, minus the part where he/she told you to stop acting so asian.. :| It's so stupid& insulting. They can't tell an asian person to stop being asian because they're asian, does that make sense? :|
But I had friends that told me, "Omg, you're so asian"& they would then say, "Aww, you're so CUTE. Hmm, I don't like that word.

Re: Have you ever been called wannabe Asian?
no. i like the fashions and clothes in asia, but i do not like anything else that would lead people to call me a wanna-be asian ( the music, anime, manga, the food, the boys).

Re: Have you ever been called wannabe Asian?
I'm 1/4 Chinese so I guess that's called Eurosian? LOL IDK. XD
But, it's not that noticable.
I'm very into asian-ness. I watch dramas a lot, I have like 35 asian songs (not a lot, but I hate people looking through my songs and saying 'OH MY GOD! SO MANY ASIAN SONGS!!!' in the hallway and embarassing me) on my iPod and other little quirky things.
But, I'm so sick of hearing people say "OH MY GOD, YOU'RE SO ASIAN!!!!" and "WHY'RE YOU SO ASIAN??! YOU'RE NOT EVEN ASIAN!!"
Uhm, yes I am. And, even if I wasn't- does it concern you? No, it does not.
Also, because I watch asian dramas everyone assumes I'm some sort of weaboo. But, for the record: I DO NOT watch anime and I only read SOME manga.
It's just...irritating.

Re: Have you ever been called wannabe Asian?
Well I'm asian. But my mother tells me (in a joke) that I'm actually not her daughter, and that I was really born in Japan. She tells it to me as a joke because whenever I come home, all I do is read manga, watch anime and japanese drama, and I also sometimes speak in Japanese.
But it's NOT that I want to be Japanese. I would love to be one, but I was born in a different country, and it's not something that we can chooses from. I'm proud to be a Filipino, and I wouldn't trade my nationality to any other nationality.
What annoys me in our country is that many people like to buy these pseudo-whitening products to make them more "caucasian-y?"

Re: Have you ever been called wannabe Asian?
I have never been called a wannabe Asain, but in my youth, I have been called wannabe Native American and Wannabe white (I'm 3/4 caucasian, 1/4 mutt).
I think it is just a sign of how closed-minded some people can be. I like some of the street fashion and much J-Pop, as well as bento boxes, we love anime, my eldest daughter is bent on reading all the manga she can rent fro our local library, and my family owns only chopsticks and spoons for eating (food prep is different of course), but we aren't obsessed with the culture, there are simply things from Asian cultures (we write Chinese simplified kanji, and paint in the Chinese watercolor style for some of our art classes, so yes, more than one Asian culture) that we really enjoy.
I don't think that makes us any more or less our own genetic structure though. The Internet and mass media has made it really easy to evolve as an individual, developing preferences for many different aspects of varied traditional cultures.
The ability to celebrate a culture one was not born into is a great gift, not something to be ridicules, IMHO.
I'm on the board of my city's local Native American center, and I was saying the same thing just last week after the board meeting. Birth means nothing if your heart wishes to celebrate and embrace a culture, and the decision to love (or even live) a cultural lifestyle not yours genetically does not change your culture, or make you a wannabe, it just makes you more of a you!
I actually think it is quite an honor for people to choose to enliven a culture by emulating it. I see it much as keeping traditions alive, (like learning to tat or crochet, but to a larger extent) and spreading understanding among the world's peoples, not faking or mockery.
Being original and one-of-a-kind rocks!

You know what I dont really get? Why some filipinos get so offended when someone calls them asian, and they reply in irritation "PACIFIC ISLANDER!!" (I have a few friends who do this, which is why I bring it up).
But the philippines are in the continent of asia, are they not? Technically Japan is an island in the pacific, new zealand is an island in the pacific, yet they dont call themselves pacific islanders. If someone really wanted to, they could even call indians or other middle easterns Asian, because they're in the asian continent. Obviously, people think of asian as oriental though. But a lot of filipino people resemble other oriental nationalities physically, or they resemble mexicans/spanish people(mexicans being descendants from asians and spanish white people). I mean, there's 7 continents in geography, and the pacific islands belong to one of them whether the land is connected or not.
I guess my point is that the Philippines are both in Asia and Pacific Islands, so filipinos shouldn't get angry when they're called asian or pacific islanders because they're both correct if I'm not mistaken. XP

Re: Have you ever been called wannabe Asian?
^Well, in behalf of the Philippines, I apologize. I solely agree with you, though. It's weird, some Filipinos get angry being called Pacific Islanders, and some Filipinos want to be called Pacific Islanders. But I believe I'm Asian. :P And I don't care if some Filipinos don't want to be Asian. I'm proud of it, and I'm rocking the third world. \m/

Re: Have you ever been called wannabe Asian?
No, coz I am asian xD
I think it's cool if other people have interest in Asian cultures.
Though I mainly have asian friends..^^;;;
It's just if they take it too far when I get wary =__=
Like when people want to learn Japanese to scanalate manga D:
(yeh there's a girl (non-asian) who said that to me coz I go to Japanese school =.=)
I'm just like there's more to Japan than manga! ;__;
@whitening products. I like being pale lol. Though I naturally am, I'm scared to get tanned ><
