Have you ever been called wannabe Asian?

I've been called a wannabe Asian several times, by my Asian boyfriend too -___-

I'm half European and half Asian, I don't really feel European or Asian... so I guess I feel like i'm Eurasian XD... but I don't look Asian at all!!! And i'm kinda more interested in the Asian culture because it's just soo interesting: it's history goes way beyond the others', lots fashion styles (JAPAN OMG XD), I love how cute Japanese sounds and my boyfriend is Chinese so i'm learning Chinese language and history too...

But he says i'm a wannabe Asian because I love reading Asian magazines, I watch Asian Dramas, I watch Anime, I love Asian food, Asian fashion.... but that's not all I love!! I also love other types of fashion, American magazines, Gossip Girl(!), ANTM and sweets like muffins and cakes and that's kinda European right? XD

It's not like I want to be Asian, I really like the way I am!! Well maybe a few pounds... aahaha just kidding (But it couldn't hurt =P)

Maybe he's not used to people to be interested in Asian things, he also doesn't really hang out with Asian people...

You get my point here right? XD

Firstly I have to say, you're so pretty *jealous* xD

OK! I'm asian (viet) but I do love the japanese culture. I LOVE anime, manga, utada hikaru, the language (KA-WAI-II~~~*), kimonos, etc. My bf always teases me and says I'm a jap wannabe and i just smile and do the peace sign and say "HAI~~!~ xD"

Don't let it get to you. If it bothers you just casually let him know that you just happen to like asian things (like him ^_~) and try not to make a big out of it. It's not like he's said anything mean or offensive right? =]

I've been called asian wannabe in sort of a question like "do you want to be asian or something?" or "are you an asian wannabe?" it made me a tiny bit mad, but then again i can't blame them for thinking that if i'm wearing asian-ish clothes or listen to asian music, watch anime and asian dramas, have a crap load of manga, visual kei band posters on my walls, gloomy bears, the list goes on. But i've never acted asian, which to me is what makes someone an asian "wannabe" because at that point, you're not being yourself.

but I never wanted to be asian at any point in my life :/
I'm really glad that i'm Native American and white, there are many benefits to that, and I love my lifestyle. So just because you enjoy asian merchandise and fashion and music, does not make you an asian wannabe. I mean, maybe some people really do wish they were asian. But it doesn't necessarily mean that everyone who likes those things wants to be asian. As long as I can enjoy the asian things, and have a cute asian to spend the rest of my life with(because they're the only hot men on earth, to me), why would i need to be asian? I love myself the way I am, but yes, i have been approached like im an asian wannabe.

However, I am guilty of calling a few people asian/japanese wannabes. I think it was due to all the random anime/jrock/japan questions I got from stark raving mad otakus =_=

I have no trace of asian genes in me whatsoever. :x

But I'm totally in love with eeeverything over there. D: I've never been called that, though. That I know of.. o__o;; The only thing I've been classified as that relates to my love of Japan and such is not having a life by one of my friends, since I watch too much anime too often. xD ...And that I've got a slight addiction to MMORPGing. .__.;;

but like forsheezy I also called a few people wannabe asian.
but.. an old friend, I also called her wannabe asian. but with her it was just extremly O___O she even wanted plastic chirurgy because she wanted asian eyes. I thought wtf man. omg, that went tooooo far.

I've nver been called wanna bee asian but tha tis because I don't need to be asian. I do like asian cultures and clothing but I won't go that far as calling me: laura-chan as my personal name.

last time this girl on myspace wanted to add me who called herself ...-chan. and she was deathseriour about it O___o and she has no asian features or was borh in japan. but she claimed to have 2% japanese blood in her.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeird people! hahahahhaa

I'm 100% Chinese (although there are subdivisions among Chinese ethnic groups as well as many people fail to realize), and well, I find that 99% of Asian wannabes are actually Japanese wannabes. Their attitude can honestly be rather offensive. While they refer to "Asians" as being great (they're white), they only really mean Japan - so far as to say "no other Asian is as good as a Japanese! That's great but I don't care, it's not Japanese. I wish I was born Japanese." And go on to speak one or two Japanese phrases they learned from anime ("it's so sugoi and kawaiiii desu!!!")

I have watched anime before, and played video games sure, but it really bugs me how they don't acknowledge the merits of any other Asian country. I'm not saying having an interest in Asian things makes you an Asian wannabe, but the "Japanophiles" honestly get on my nerves :/

I'm asian too, but I really enjoy all types of culture. I'm guilty of Japanese especially. I think it's pretty awesome that others like asian culture, but it tends to veer towards the north-eastern asian countries(china,japan,korea) but if they try to imitate the fashion, at least pull it off nicely

it only goes overboard if they get all: 'supa supa kawaii!!! kyaaa nyaa etc. etc.

Augh, It was so dumb! On Xbox live, some loser sent me a message calling me a wannabe asian and stuff even though I'm full asian. I'm pretty sure they sabotaged my account too, because all my rep went bad so I had to report it to a Microsoft rep. It was weird because I've never even played with that person before & I didn't have the same games either >:[ I was so mad!

I'm pretty asian myself, so I've been coined a "fob" at some point in my life and I've also been accused of being white washed. I dont know what is worse.

Theres no shame in liking Asia and the many things it produces. The only thing that disturbs me a little is having an Asian fetish...to be physically attracted to Asians solely because of their race...because of the romanticized despictions in anime.

ahaha a few of my asian friends say I'm pretty asian (though I am 100% white.) a japanese friend calls me "petto" hahaha and a korean friend calls me her "little egg"
i don't mind...they don't mean it in a mean way. They think it's pretty cool that I am interested in their countries.
i think the culture & history is fascinating & of course i love the music, Kdramas, fashion....cute boys. It happens.

people in school call me asian addict/freak just because of him.
my best friends is japanese but we werent at the same school
so, as soon as school people knew that, they start bothering me.
my cousin's bff is taiwanese so they said, its in ur family huh?
im trying to ignore that. they're really stupid/nolife people
so i dont care that much. x'DD
but the thing that pissed me off the most
was in a birthday dinner with my bf's family and friends
there was this "lady" [almost in her 60]
trying to convince my bf's mom
to send him to china to work...
to forget me and stuff :O

just bcuz im "NOT" asian. c'mon
what the hell was she thinking????

either way im cutter than her daughter.

I watch a lot of anime and listen to jpop and jrock, so a lot of times my mom and sister say I want to be Japanese. I'm pretty happy as I am now, though, and I don't know why they think that because I've never said it. XD It's kind of funny, my mom likes Guyanese culture and my sister like Puerto Rican but those aren't our ethnicites. XD

Not all asian fetishes have something to do with anime.. some girls only like asian guys because the other races make them feel dirty and gross x.x And anime men don't even look asian.
Personally, I like asian guys because they make me feel clean(for lack of better word) because they're generally not very harry all over their body and they look physically better than other races too. I also think shorter-medium sized men are hotter than super tall guys. And they don't have pointy noses usually. that's all physical, because i think it's weird of someone if they said they like asian guys only because of their mind or personality, because personalities of other races can easily be the same. So why wouldn't it be a physical preference? I've had a crush on a mexican guy once when i was little, and then i suddenly felt absolutely nothing for him. And since then, I have never felt anything romantic toward a guy that was anything but asian. I don't think it's something I chose consciously, until it was already done and i consciously realized it. Or maybe it happened because the only hot guys around me growing up happened to be asian LOL
