Default Foreign Exchange Programs!

I'm considering going abroad for a year, to study in a foreign country. But, my parents don't want me to go, because background checks aren't done on house families. :/ (I have a set of over-protective, caring parents who don't want me raped or dead... Heh.) I want to go to Japan or Germany, because the cultures are incredibly enticing to me and I want to learn more about Germany, where I was born...(:
What I'm asking for, really, is your opinions. Should I try and study abroad?): I'm not a very strong person, and if something WERE to happen... I couldn't protect myself very well.

I think you should go for it! Studying abroad should be so funny and exciting, i have thought about it too. I would have gone to Japan for a year, but then i found a musicschool instead, but thats another story >_>'.
If you're unsure about if it's safe, there is a lot of nice companies (i guess you could call them companies), that offers conversations with the family you're going to live with first, and stuff like that.

Haha, now i just hope that my english wasn't too messy >_>'.
