I'm african [My parents are from liberia], and what really ticks me off is when people assume that just because I'm african, I :
a) Don't know english
b) Live in hut and wear leaves
c) am completely illiterate
d)[my personal favorite > ] am an "African Booty-Scratcher"
e) speak in some clicking tougue language
f) have [or will] stretch out my ear-lobes
g) don't shower

Ignorate people are always asking me if there is a McDonalds in Africa or if they have stores. OF COURSE they have stores. Africa is full of many developed nations!!!!!

Another thing that ticks me off is that just because I'm black people exspect me to act a current way. And GOD FORBID I act differently, they look at me like I'm a freak. I happen to love alt. rock, jrock, and jpop. I'm not a fan of modern rap. Mostly all their talking about is sex, money, women, and drugs. A few chose ones are good. I tend to dress on the semi-casual/formal side [LUV dress and heels, and fashion-y stuff], people always say "Why do you dress so white"? Does every nationality have a certain way of dressing? Hell NO!!! It's called personal style. I think people should be allowed to express themselves in different ways.

I've learned that their are people in this world that are going to hate you. You just got to suck it up and deal. Don't stoop to their level or you'll be just as bad as them. Show them that their stpuid moronic comment don't effect you. As my sig says " Be yourself, don't take anyone's shit, and never let them take you alive"

I just wish people could look past the skin and at the person in the inside. Maybe one day, people will be able to except all human being...

ooh.. my post is a bit long.. I feel very strongly about racism and discrimination of any type.. sorry~~

&&where does Ching Chang Chong come from?
hmm.. I guess that the whole ching chong thing comes from the word "chinese" itself... you know, how it sometimes goes "ching chong chinaman?" It was probably made up years ago by some ignorant person and because of it's catchy alliteration it stuck. going by history, i know it was around during the times of the australian gold rush - Chinese people had come to also mine for gold and there was a lot of racism against them from the european races. often they were kicked out of all the good sites for gold, and the europeans would get mad when the chinese turned up more gold than them... like being chinese has anything to do with finding gold!! I remember in my textbook it said that they used to use the term "ching chong" when referring to the chinese.. I'm not quite sure if it was around before then - it probably was, but this is the earliest reference my coffee-starved brain can come up with XD

point is, It's so stupid - i mean, languages don't SOUND like the name of the nationality it comes from! and chinese doesn't sound like that either.

and the dog eating thing... there's nothing wrong with it, it's exactly the same as raising cows for slaughtering and eating. It's just that people find it weird because they have a different perception of dogs - to them they are pets, and thats why they find it scary coz it's different. as humans, we are afraid of different and unknown things.. but that doesn't make it right to make racist statements about it - it just means that the person is ignorant and uneducated.

as for my own experiences.. being half filo half australian, I've seen quite a lot of it, mainly towards my filopino side. There was this one time, my friends and I were sitting on the train to school, and this guy who was behind us told us to "speak english, no china here, no china here" - which was completely ignorant because we were speaking fluent english to each other and only two of us were chinese (the rest of us were korean/filo/aussie). and that's just the tip of the iceberg.. I have so much to say on this topic... sorry guys for such a long post!

One experience I had was when I was working at a coffee shop. This one customer would frequently come and order coffee at my till, but he wouldn't want me making his coffee or taking his order. I didn't know why until my supervisor told me that the customer only wanted his order taken and made by a caucasian. >;OOO!!! Really arrogant too. Didn't even want to supervisor doing his order. (She's brown) So next time. . . the supervisor was going to put all the asians in the storefront. xD

I really hate racist people. I know this guy that goes to my school and we somehow got into a discussion about what ethnicities we all were in our theatre class. So when my turn came I started listing off a few European countries and then right after I said Ireland, he went right into the stereotypical "drunk and stupid" Irish jokes. And well....I kicked him in the chin with my Irish Stepdancing hard shoes and he doesn't say anything to me anymore.

But seriously, I just don't get how people can be racist. And those that can't tell what ethnicity you are (for example I hear a lot of listing off of random Asian countries when people try to guess what ethnicity some of my Asian friends are) those kinds of people don't care. And it's sad. Because one of my favorite hobbies is learning about other cultures.

yeah, tv doesn't exactly help the drunk and stupid irish sterotype. on family guy peter went to ireland to look for his dad and he went into the town pub and asked for his dad and the bartender says "oh, he's the town drunk" and peter says "oh, i'm so ashamed" (or something like that) and the bartender says "no! in ireland the town drunk is the most respected person in town!". and then his other father (yeah, he has two) is a hardcore irish catholic who hates all protestants. pshhhh, stupid tv.

and also, we had a student teacher from china for math and i heard two girls in my class go "ew she smells like won-tons" and then laughed.

Ok, that is just plain rude to begin with. It amazes me how incredibly narrow-minded and mean some people can be.

Although, I have to say if someone said I smelled like won-tons, I'd take it as a complement just because those things are beyond amazing...

I got heckled and harassed by a bunch of Chinese people at my friend's birthday this past weekend. Her older family members are hardcore traditional in their beliefs and they kept shooing me out of the room and asking a bunch of loaded questions. Some even ignored me. It was very awkward.

i think everyone handles racism differently
like im korean
and alot of people tease me, like my eyes.

but i know that they're joking.
and if they're not, i just live on with life.

like when people ask me if i eat dog i would say "no, but it wouldn't hurt to try"
some people are very arrogant.
I would understand if you were vegeterian, but a dog is an animal. We all eat animals! Like cows, pigs, chicken, etc.
It doesn't really make much of a different, and what does eating dog have to do with race anyway?!

because the truth is, WE ARE ALL PEOPLE.
it shouldn't matter of what ethnicity we are.

And in school,
especially in geography class.
alot of girls ask such stupid questions
like "do they computers in Africa!?"

it was plain stupid.
some africans may live in a life of proverty, but they dont live in the freakkin stone age!

Alot of people are arrogant, and sometimes even me, I'll confess that.

Like I go to a all girls Catholic school. (im not catholic tho, im pyrsberterian)
and everytime a teacher mentions sex, they go all "ewww"

but they dont understand how sex is a beautiful thing.
Without our parents having sex, we wouldn't be here in this world.
alot of people have to be more openminded (including me)

arukab: so, i live in canada. my teacher was telling us she was passing through an airport in the middle east, and she had a canadian flag on her backpack (we're told that canadians get treated well in other countries so lots of people sew flags on their backpacks (: ) anyways, so someone comes up to her and asks:

"do you have electricity in canada?"

so she replied:

"only in saturdays."

some people are SO STUPID.

I know what you mean. When I tell people (or when they find out) that I hear Japanese and Chinese music, they begin to say "ching chong chang" and making fun of it etc... Even though I'm not Asian at all, it offends me when people says that
kind of things.

My experiences~
I'm a bit Polish and my last name is Polish.
Sometimes people ask me if I'm Russian or
makes fun of my last name..
And a guy who was at my school last year, was really
ignorant. Once he told the others, while I was listening, that a car had been stolen
at his work and that he was sure it was a Pole who had stolen it.
And then he began to talk about all the Polish workers who came
to Denmark for working (yeah, I'm from Denmark) in a negative way...
Like, he talked about them like if all Polish workers (or Poles)
stole and etc. I was really offended. Poles are not worse humans
than others. And then later another guy who's really racistic
began to say racistic things about Poles too...
I got so mad.. he reminded me of what Hitler meant about Poles and Russians, Judes, etc... that they were "lower worthy" -_-
This was kinda long.. so I'll stop here.

That's all so horrible! Racism is so ugly. There's nothing worse than ignorant people! Students in my class are like that, too. We have that Japanese exchange student girl, and when they found out she was from Japan, they were all, like "Japan? Hahahaha! Shing shang shong!" DAMN! Helloooo, guys!? Grow up! It makes me too angry for words. But what can we do? Racism is everywhere. And as long as racist people don't hurt other people, we should all just try to ignore it as good as we can.

I get the 'white girl' comment all the time and I think it's absurd.
You know what I say to those people?
"If being white means expressing my individuality, getting good grades and speaking proper grammar, then I am proud to be white."
That usually stuns them.
There hasn't been a time that it hasn't.
There's so many white people that complain that
'black people' are all idiots that listen to rap music and even mock the way some of them speak.
Yet, when I come around, some complain about me being 'white', for not listening to rap music and speaking proper grammar.
I listen to some rap, but most of it's a bunch of crap.
People are so ignorant.

I'm hispanic and have gotten the "wet back" stuff. And once in a while I always get the "white girl" comments. There was this one guy that brought up immigration stuff, just to piss me off. (he succeeded.)

I hate racism, and ignorant close minded people should just grow up. I don't get how its fun to hurt someones feelings. >:[

Default but there are chinese people who are racists too =_=

So, I'm a filipino born in Macau (part of china, colonized by the portuguese before). I grew up there too.

There was this one time, a chinese classmate of mine who raged in anger and makes this snide comment:

"You filipinos should stay home and work as maids! That's what you filipinos good for!"

Just because there are a lot of OFWs doesn't mean they are all domestic helpers or something.

Another one that happened recently:

From the airport, going back home, we had to take a taxi because my dad's car wasn't in good condition. And this driver was really driving really fast. He had this annoyed expression on his face which says, 'of all clients I have to drive for, why filipinos??' like in a really mean way.

Of course, I was also getting annoyed. But I don't care if he brings us to the police since me and my parents are residents in Macau. The driver is the problem because he isn't treating clients right because we're filipinos. Right?

So, my mom tells the guy in cantonese to slow down. The guy doesnt! I finally said to the guy with an edge in my voice to slow down. I just got back in Macau and then someone pisses me off!

But noooo...The driver doesn't

So, when we got off the taxi, I took a note of his license plate and slammed the passenger's door.
