Oh yes, Kung fu. Another one of my Asian friends growing up had people saying such mean things.
These are some things people use to tell her or come up to her and say.
"ching ching chong chong" and "Don't bother her or else she'll do some kung-fu on you... Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon style"

Mostly, when I was studying in the USA, people would, from how I speak English assume that I am stupid or dumb.
|
yeah, my dad gets that a lot. he's not so hot with his english and he gets frustrated easily (especially over the phone) when people can't understand him/he cant understand them. it's like the movie babel says haha, language is such a barrier :[ so if you don't speak well, people assume that youre stupid. its lame.

The stupid thing is that the Chinese language doesn't even sound like that ching chong stuff...I'm learning Chinese right now and I've yet to come across words that sound like that -_-;; So where did they get THAT from?

i'm white and live in a mostly white, mexican, and hmong community.. the only racism ive ever experienced has been at swap meets where they try to charge me more for stuff. my dad has been insulted, etc. before because of him being Polish. ive been hearing a lot of Jewish and Middle Eastern racism at my school though lately.. ive kind of become numb to all the racist stereotypes and insults since i hear so many students say them everyday to sound cool. but it just makes them sound uneducated.

i don't wanna learn other languages cuz i suck at languages :x
i wouldn't let it discourage you though! but i wouldn't want to live in another country, personally. cuz no matter what if you start learning a language late, you'll NEVER speak like a native. and people don't take you seriously, sadly. so i would never move

.____. well, i mean in a negative way. if i were a person that is like...in absolute true passionate love with frogs and snails, and i asked a french person that question, it'd be like sending a negative vibe to the french person xD plus...having a job and likeing the color blue is like universal. it's not directed to any specific race at all ._____. i highly doubt a white person would be asked if they ate dog.

It's funny, I once had a little racism directed at me by my friends. I'm famously Irish around here because me ma's an immigrant (most people's parents were born here *around here*). So in English class we had to read this long essay about in Ireland how people couldn't afford their children. So the guy who wrote it (one or two hundred years ago) said *sarcastically* that they should just eat the children. That way the parents would recieve money for the children, and the rich people would get to eat a new meal. In the halway my friends were like "Don't eat me!!" and "so have you ever eaten someone?". I was just like "Wtf?". I had to explain to them that I would have been the one being eaten, cause my irish family wasn't rich and we're catholic (the author said that it would solve the problem of too many catholics).
I have to admit, it was actually pretty funny. And the author was just joking, it was a political statement. He wasn't really suggesting cannibalism.

man, i guess a lot of peoples' friends inadvertently say racist things to them. that sucks :[ im lucky, the friends i hung around with like in high school were a really diverse group so we didn't have any problems with one another
haha well once my friend, before i knew him...in spanish class, we had this project. like a BIG project that you were supposed to work hard on. and he like came in the day it was due with like some marker written on the back of a flattened soda box. and the teacher was like "wtf is this!" and he was like "well im a lazy mexican here is my project" and everybody just went O____O, wtf at him. lol god that was so dumb. it makes me sad when people say bad things about their own races! like they don't like themselves. my dad & other people in my family say bad stuff about filipino people all the time :[
my dad once got drunk and just went on this tirade about how filipino people are the "monkeys of planet earth" and how white people are the best. and it just makes me sad that my dad kinda thinks that way :[ i don't think it's his fault. cuz he was raised not to believe in himself and other people in the philippines. a lot of people i know just see all the ghettos and poverty over there and assume that there must be something wrong with filipino people themselves that so many of them live that way. and these are like, the people living IN the philippines that i talked to who thought this way! it's sad :[ and they come here to america and they don't see all the trash and things you see there and just assume things. i know that's what my dad did.

Good topic!!!
I'm not Asian but I am half black/half white. So I've had my fair share. Some of the comments that I remember getting are, "Halfbreed, mutt, etc." I even had a girl once say to me, "Atleast my parents weren't dumb enough to make mixed babies!" And I even had a woman at PetSmart assume that I worked there because I look kinda hispanic. She was talking to me in Spanish and I was like, "Is there a problem? I don't work here." Then she asked me, "do you work here?" in english and I said no and then she asked me in spanish again! I was thinking, "WTF?" I hate to point out her race but she was white and seemed really snobbish. I'm no where near racist but I think that many people from many different races are ignorant. Some are even ignorant without knowing it. Those are the ones that offend me the most. Why can't you just try to be a little more aware of what you say and do? I hate it because so many people just assume my race. I'm a bit unidentifiable when it comes to naming my race. No one knows what I am unless I tell them. So...I get LOTS of comments...Just gotta deal with and KNOW that you are better than them!

Well I'm black, and I HATE BET! I also get that whole "Oh, you talk so proper" thing...Just because I'm black doesn't mean I am going to say "Naw mayne" or something...People should get over themselves and start seeing that there isnt really anything such as acting black or white, you act how you are no matter what race it is mostly associated with.

Yeah... actually... one of my best friends totally changed towards the end of highschool and rather than being normal and accepting... everyday me and my other friend would have to hear "White people are stupid." "White people can't do anything themselves" and soon enough she was constantly telling us and pretty much the world how asians have done everything for "white people" and how "White People's" education is bad and on and on and on...
And what's worse is she slowly started to insult my other best friend more because she's british/irish... and such...
In the end... she ended up ditching us for her online, deviantart friends...
-nods-
So... uhm... racism comes from everyone on the face of the world... what can ya do...

It doesnt 'offend me' so to speak.
But Im Portuguese, I have light skin rather than tanned, and my last name is Mendes.
Everyone thinks Im Mexican.
Its more stereotypical than racist. But its still obnoxious.

Hmm. For me, it came to a point where I kind of EXPECTED to hear racial slurs etc., because I just got used to it (but I never liked it, of course).
I'm half white, half Asian (Laotian to be exact). When I went to Utah to this amusement park (Lagoon?), these obnoxious teenaged girls who were like 14 glared at me and my mom and were like "Konnichiwa!" and they laughed after. Seriously, it happened more than once there, too.
I don't really look like my mom- I look a lot like my dad, who's white. So whenever I went to Lao events with my mom, people would speak in Lao and say stuff like "who's that white girl? Is that her mom with her? Why's she here?" and little did they know I UNDERSTOOD WHAT THEY WERE SAYING. They said it right in front of me, too. Going to Lao events, I got a lot of odd looks. When someone would make a rude comment, I'd give them this look and tell them "I can understand what you're saying" and they'd shut up immediately after that.
My mom's side of the family is Asian, and because I'm one of the only halfers, I used to be called "bird poo", "German shepherd", "white girl", "honkee", etc. by my cousins. Sometimes I get that "German shepherd" comment still, though. They'd slam me for being "whiter" than them... umm, I'm half white, what the hell is their problem??
Funny because now I like Asian culture more than they do now, and now they call me fobby or wannabe Asian or whatever.
I've gotten that chopstick comment... "hey, can you translate this for me?" It doesn't offend me but it's just like, riiiiiiiighttt.

Here's the link: YouTube - 30 seconds to mars- from yesterday

I am half mexican and I was asked if I worked at this game store before. I don't think it was racist at all but I jsut thought it was kinda weird.
I hear lots of racist things against mexicans though and it bugs me soo much! I hear things like "stupid mexican" and "they should go back over the border" and "they need to speak English if they live here." My friends know I am half mexican and that my mom's side of the family is all mexican and spanish-speaking. Most of them even came from Mexico but they will say things like they hate mexicans. I always ask them why they say things like that when they know I am mexican also. It makes me sick sometimes because they feel it is alright to say things like that.
