Racist moments i've witnessed-
1.My best friend is half Korean(and very proud of that part of her). She is the best violinist at our school and get all A's,but it's so annoying how my parents say it's because she's Asian.
2.The second best violinist at our school is Russian and people call both of them Communists.I know their just friendly teasing but one boy(who's also on the orchestra and is a class clown)posted a link to a Kim Jom Il fan site on her myspace.I know he doesn't mean to be mean but i thought it was.
3.My school has a sister school in Korea.Every year they come visit. One of my friend's was a girls escort so she came to our drama class and one of the immature boys started doing thatching chong crap and i felt so embarassed(i was trying to speak in actual Korean that my bff taught me).i told him to stop but he acted like he did nothing wrong. The girl didn't speak much english so i think she thought he was just speaking english.
4.I have6th grade friend who is like korean japanese filipino and italian. Our bus got in a crash and i was sitting with her so when my sister (who came with my mom to pick me up) came up to the bus she said(right in front of her face)"ASIAN!"Again I was embarrassed.(But some might say it technically wasn't racist since it was a fact. )

When it comes to this I can relate.I am full African American and i am interested in japnese culure(I don't think I'm Japanese or anything). One day I came to school wearing a shirt with my chinese zodiac sign i chinese and these 2 boys in my art class(who were black)asked if I was into anime(I didn't even want to start on how my shirt was chinese and anime is japanese).I just answered truthfull and said yes. Then they asked if I was into rock music too(they said it in a way like i was weird).I just nodded but thought"IM INTO ALL KINDS OF MUSIC:ROCK,RAP,POP(well not country)EVEN JAPANESE MUSIC,SO WHAT?!".That was on the first few days of school and i actually think those guys are cool. It's just that the other girls who like anime in our class our white(except for one).
But one time I was listening to my ipod and thi 6th grader asked if she could listen to.She was like"What songs do you have, probaly rap and stuff"I purposely put it on a rock song because of that. And there are plenty of white people I know who like rap and r&b.
Finally I get tons of people(including my family)who say i sound white.(my parent say that's good)WTF?!

Gosh... just reading these makes me angry.
My community has learned to accept Asians because:
1. We make up a majority of the population
2. Most of us are very violent Asians who know how to handle weapons or fists
3. People are starting to go into the Asians are cool phase
4. Because we interact with them so much they got used to it
I hope you guys don't let these experiences bring you down.

hmm that reminds me, stupid racist people nowadays =_= there was this one time, me and my boyfriend was sitting on the bus, and this stupid old 40-50 yr old white guy got on the bus and sat sumwhere in the front. And there were all these Chinese old people who sat in the front and since most old people have hearing problems, of course they'll talk loud. And then the Chinese people were all just talking amongst themselves until that stupid old white guy shouted "SHUTUP YOU STUPID VIETNAMESE PEOPLE!" or something like that. Everyone got quiet. Stupid racists Same with games these days too.. =_= Ex: Maplestory, WHY PLAY AN ASIAN GAME WHEN YOUR RACIST. Lol.

Well, I'm not black, but I'm Mexican and I can sort of relate to this. I'm more interested in Chinese culture, though, and am learning Mandarin too (three years already).  And, yeah, the Latino stereotypes really bug me sometimes. Like, how we're all supposed to be dark-skinned, which isn't in the least bit true. Go to Mexico and there's plenty of Latinas that are extreeeeeeemely light-skinned, like me. And I'm fully Mexican! And in response to a previous poster way back on the first page; I've randomly said "ni hao" to several people. XD!! I didn't think that was offensive at all. :S If somebody said "hola" to me down the street; I wouldn't be offended, I'd be glad that they're interested in learning other languages.  Even if that's not always the case and they're just making fun of Latinos... in a stupid way, by using our language. o.o;
Yeah, and also the music thing; a lot of people expect Latinos to be listening to rap/hip-hop/reggaeton/that sort of thing. But I mostly listen to classic rock, which a lot of people, not just because of racist reasons, think that's weird. XD Because I'm so young and apparently I'm not supposed to be listening to that kind of music. o_O; I can listen to whatever sort of music I like, thank you. But anyway, that's going off-topic. xD But yeah, whatever racist remarks people have said to me, I've mostly forgotten since I tend to just ignore them. But what really annoys me are the stereotypes. :<

also i witnessed a lot of racism towards filipino people in japan, it made me sad
|
You know, I won't lie about this either. Filipino people do get downtalked a lot by Japanese people (so do other people but mostly Filipinos). It's really sad actually. Once, I went to Hakone to stay in a hotel with my mom and all of the maids with low jobs were Filipino. People were really rude and nasty towards them. However, my mom loved talking to the maid who took after our room. hehe =3 It was because she use to live in the US Virgin Islands and knew how to speak English. Sometimes it was nice not always speaking Japanese to people ^-^. Also, if you've ever been to Japan and you notice the women working the rice paddies out in the countryside.. you'll notice that majority of them aren't Japanese women. They're mainly Filipino, Thai, Chinese.. etc. It's because all of the Japanese girls move to the cities and don't marry the farmer guys. And then those farmer guys marry whoever (mainly Filipino, Thai, and Chinese) just to help out on the rice paddies. It's really really sad if you've ever seen it.

I've experienced a lot of racism but thing is, I don't really let it get to me 'cause I do the same thing as calling my friends 'crackers' and 'beaners' (no offense) and I call other Chinese people 'chinks' - 'cause I don't mean it in an insulting way, I mean it in the joking way.
But the one saying I hate most :
"What kind of Chinese are you?"
Like, okay, I'm going to deck you in the jaw now. ><

garsh, people are so mean. I'm not asian, but I try to stick up for asians (really any race that can't be stuck up for there). but the other day I was listening to music and it was a utada hikaru song, and a guy comes over and says, "what're you listening to?" (i know him) and so i showed him and he said "oh, i heard that. it's by that chinese artist". so i was like "no, she's japanese, there's a difference" and this other guy said "there's no difference between japanese and chinese". erg....

That happened to me too, but most people think I`m either Phillipino (did I spell it right?) or Chinese. Also, this never happened to me, but where my parents are from - Argentina, my dad said because he was Japanese people would think he was a certain nationality and that he did karate. I also did have this one guy from my school call me a "jap." I don't know whether he was insulting me, heard from it somewhere and said to me because he didn't know the meaning of it, or if he was joking.

I'm also Vietnames/Chinese and alll I have to say is that racistism is EVERYWHERE. And people who make racist remarks aren't always mean people, they're just STUPID!
And to make an example of how stupid the world is now, I'll tell you a story.
I was at this science museum with my friend when some little 5 year old kid came up to me and bow as she said konnechiwa. Than ran away laughing with her friends... okay so maybe she seemed proud of herself for "knowing" something, but really, who taught her that? And a lotta people don't even know what Asia is... they're like... what? I though china was the continent! Oh, like how you live in Canada? =_____=

I deal with the racist thing almost all the time.
1) I'm African Canadian (I say canadian instead of american)
&
2) I'm half Asian.
I live in those new houses neighbourhoods and the population is Asian and you'll find [some] white people. But anyways, when me and my family first moved into the house, people were looking at us kind of funny, cause they weren't really used to seeing black people in the area.
I always remember me and my Mom (she's Korean) would take walks and just tlak about stuff and everywhere we look some Asain couple or white guy was staring at us.
I remember one time a lady came to the house to talk, this lady was a co-worker with my mom. And I remember:
I open the door. She was polite and said Hi and I said hello, and she asked for my Mom (her name is Karen):
Lady: Is Karen home?
Me: Yeah just she's in the kitchen I'll tell her you're waiting
(she's in the living room, I tell my mom and come back in the living room)
Lady: So, is Karen your babysitter?
Me: Uh, no...
Lady: Oh. Friend of the family then right?
Me: No...she's my mother.
Lady: Oh...ok.
She had a look of disbelief on her face and when my Mom came I heard her asking my Mom all these questions about me.
Lady: "Is she your step-child then?
Mom: No, she's right out of my stomach.
I could tell by my Mother's expression that she was annoyed.
And another thing is at school.
I'm very good at all my subjects and I'm on high honor roll.
So some guy came up to me after we got back a French Test and says
"What did you get?"
I told him "100%" and showed him my paper so he'd have proof.
So he says: "Oh, you so damn smart, it's cause your half Chinese!!"
So I was pissed off abit and I said "I'm half Korean actually..."
And he said "Whatever, your asian and asians are F***ing scholars..."
I sort of had a short argument with him. About not all asians being smart and blah blah.
Actually just the other day some guys in my music class were all talking about girls beating up girls. And (1) everyone thinks that black girls can seriously injure anyone and (2) Asians know martial arts....
SO you can only imagine how uncomfy I was...
Guy1: Hey, but I'd never mess with Sharifa!
Guy2: Yeah she's like f***ing triple threat!
guy1: Yeah not only is she black so she can kick my arse...but she may use kung fu on me!
Guy2: Hey, sharifa if anyone comes after me I'm calling you ok?
Me: You guys are so f***ing ignorant...
And then I told them off abit and said something like "Not all Portugese people are GREAT at soccer" (cause they were Portugese)
I wasnt really shouting, but I had a one of those soft tones but I was very sincere about it.
{Haha, I just noticed, for a catholic High School, we sure do swear alot more than when I've visited to Public Highschools}
It's something that goes away after people get to know me and stuff.
But when people first meet me, thats all they seem to talk about. My half-breedness.
Oh and by the way, I lurve Utada Hikura! =3

I find a few, very minor things, to be kind of racist against canadians on some american websites. only small stuff, I don't get worked up over it, but it's still kind of stupid:
phone eh? the eh isn't even used in the right context

I wasn't angry about it, it's just dumb. dumbly funny

aw ahaha. yeah people make assumptions when really.. they shouldnt. assuming is not always a good thing when you think about it. like ok see.. i'm like a more-european-looking-wasian [lol wasian] and i'm ok with that and all. but i hate it when people try to freaking guess me and think i'm spanish. like no offense but i'm not spanish. i don't.. really look.. hispanic either. i have yellow skin and my eye shape is asian [even though i have eyelids but w/e]. it really bothers me too. the korean kids in my school don't like japanese people so they are the only ones who say that to me. it's really rascist and i hate them for that.

Gotta justify this... lol...
There's no problem with being interested in Japanese culture... but some people take it too far, AKA what we call wannabes...
Wapanese just means White/ Europeans who want to be Japanese.

***confused and ponders what you're implying by the bolded and italicized statement***
you probably don't mean anything by it, or I'm just taking it the wrong way, or you worded yourself wrong (I always do) but this statement kind of made me go "wha?! did I just read what I thought I read?!"
