Racist experiences
I'm Vietnamese and part Chinese (my great grandfather). Right now I'm in a fight with this white guy because he's being a jackass.
Me: *takes off glasses to clean him*
Him *watches me* Is it true that Asian people need to wear glasses and stuff like that more often then otheres because of their slanty eyes? Don't they all have bad eyesight?
OMG that jackass! Hardly anyone in my family wears glasses and the ones that do, including me, wear them because we're freakin' short/far sighted!
Other racist crap I've had:
People pulling at their eyes
People thinking that all Asian languages are like "ching chong chang"
People asking me if it's true that I eat dogs
People assuming what nationality I am and saying "konnichi wa" or "ni hao"
I'm in a pretty patriotic (is that the word?) mood right now as today is Chinese New Year.

Oui, where do you live? @_@
I've experienced a few mean comments, but none that really stood out in my memory...

i had a korean boyfriend and he was kinda racist actually... like he told me that all british people were ugly.. i was like "my family is from britain and you know that" and then he just went on about how all british people are terrible and you can tell when people are part british. i was like "thanks". and then some korean people would think he was an idiot for dating a white girl and they would make fun of me and such.. . blaah.

i'm filipino & i get a lot of vietnamese people assuming that i'm vietnamese & speaking to me in vietnamese.
and well lots of other languages
i've had a vietnamese man try to rip my sister & i off of $10 at an asian market once. i think it was the combination of us being filipino & kids
also i witnessed a lot of racism towards filipino people in japan, it made me sad

I'm half Filipino and in one of my classes I sit with a half Japanese boy and a white boy and I'm like... semi-friends with both of them, but they are SO SO RACIST.
I swear to god, I get dog-eating comments EVERYDAY. Among other things...
I didn't really know what to say to that so I just played it off and was like, "Yeah.. I'll totally eat your dog if you don't shut up." Weeeird kids, those.
Other than those two kids, I've never really had any racist remarks made about me.

to all who have experience those type of RACIST comments:
KICK THEIR ASSES. Baaam. If you wanna "sink to their level", make equally nasty comments about THEIR skin and THEIR ethnicity.
If not...well...tell them that racism is not seriously not cool....honestly...WHAT GRADE ARE YOU IN TO BE RACIST?! Are you in 2nd grade?!?! Why do you think all of these artists sing and rap about not being racist?!
YOU'RE IMMATURE AND UNCULTURED! GET OVER YOURSELVES!

I don't see a problem with this... I do this a lot with customers. A lot of guests are surprised when I talk to them in Japanese or Korean and they seem a lot happier.

killing dogs is illegal in HK but there is still a market for it. at one point my dad did get his friend who lives in china to bring dog meat to him. so there are folk who do eat dog meat. cats and rats are sometimes on the menu too
i've had lots of racist experiences and to my surprise, it's come from mainly middle aged men and its happened when i'm out alone (i.e. shopping, walking down the street in the daytime). they would make kung fu noises and actions, call me "chinky" or "jap" etc. sometimes i respond in the wrong way and tell them to "f*** off cos i can speak better english than them" (it could get me in trouble one day).
the thing that annoys me the most is ignorant folk who continue to use the word "chinky" when talking about chinese carryouts. when i was on placement, a social worker actually used this in front of me and didnt realise it was offensive until i pulled her up for it. and to think we're trained to work in an anti-discriminatory way ..shocking.
some ppl i've come across who've used the word "chinky" say its just a short hand way of saying chinese carryout, and dont see the wrong in it. but they forget about the meanings underlying it, and dont realise where the word even comes from. they grow up with this type of language being used in their family home, and without ppl challenging it, they wont think its wrong.

Your totally right. Language like this is never challenged at home or very little if any. The sad part about about it is that the ppl using that type of language grow up thinking that its ok to speak of another person in that way and when they reproduce their children will unfortunately learn their parents raciest ways and continue the cycle.
Might I add that this usually leads to hate crimes and retaliation???
Ive had racists comments directed to me to.
I'm a Mexican Jew and a guy from work once told me that I was a bean-eating Jesus killing swine. Needless to say I reported his ignorant self. (BTW swine one of the many derogitory terms ppl use to describe Jews).

Luckily I haven't really experienced much racism against me, since most people assume I'm white I guess (I'm half Japanese). But my boyfriend's mom doesn't like Chinese (first thing she asked was if I was Chinese when he told her he had a girlfriend)... My friend's mom for some reason has a problem with me though... she's also racist against Philipinos (spelling? :/) My aunt is Philipino... I think I'm mostly just surrounded by racist people?
It really pisses me off when ignorant non-asians pretend they know how to speak Japanese and go off into their own nonsense jiberish of "chin cho foo shoo" crap.... that has happened, actually... >___<;

I get stereotyped a lot. People wondering too if I eat dogs, or know karate, or speak Cantonese/Mandarin/Japanese/Korean (although, I'm Filipino lol), or they automatically assume I'm sooo good at math (it's my worst subject... )...
Yeah, I've had "racist experiences" before, but now it doesn't bother me as much as it used to. I just try to shrug it off. Their ignorance isn't worth my time at all.

Yeah, of course. I got the whole ching-chang-chong thing. The eating-dogs thing too. But the worst I got was this guy saying that chinese people wash themselves with crap instead of soap and that's why we are "yellow". Pshhh. Dumbass.
Not racist but more like ignorant... When someone asks me if I'm chinese and I say yes, they tell me "Ni hao?" and it's like, hello! It's not the only chinese language out there. Oh, and another guy was talking to another asian girl and I was behing them. The guys asked her if she was chinese. She said "no, cambodian". And he said, "well, it's the same thing no?" Oh dear God!

That "isnt it the same thing" comment could get some ignorant ppl into SOOOOOO MUCH TROUBLE. One day they are gonna say it to the wrong person and they are gonna be sorry they ever said it.

Well for me, I am african american. I have never faced any racist remarks or anything face-to-face, but I do on the internet alot. I think its because the racist crackholes are too afraid to say what they think to a person in their face...
And even though I am black, I enjoy Japanese culture, and my "friends" find that wierd because I am expected to like Nelly (which I do) and Pretty Rick (they suck if u ask me) and other stereotypical things, when in reality, I like Utada Hikaru, Dir en grey, and Yuna Ito, more than that other stuff. I swear I was japanese in a past life lol.

The whole ching chong chang language thing is so frustrating. I've kind of developed a way to ignore it now. It was so funny though, this one time this guy automatically assumed I was Chinese (I'm actually Korean) and not very good with english (probably thought I was an ESL student or something) and started making all these ridiculous comments, imitating the language.
I looked him in the eye with a kind of 'wtf' expression on my face and said, "Hey, what the **** are you going on about?" In flawless english. I was born in Canada so I don't have any accent what so ever, my English is better than Korean (sadly to say..). He was kind of dumbfounded and didn't really know what to say. He just went "Uh... oh." Then left. I nearly killed myself laughing.
There was this one guy that went to my cousin's school that really annoyed me. He had been bothering my cousin for a while and she gave me his email address so I could straighten things out *cough*. He was going on about how all asian girls are ugly and had slanty eyes, ect. He was using "slant eyes" as an insult... it was really aggravating. It came to a point that I mentioned him to a couple friends and they made sure that he shut up about it. Not in like a whole physical fight kind of way, it was more of a back off kind of thing. xD I found it kind of ironic though, since he ended up having a Korean girlfriend. Hmm.

i know what you mean. im korean and i hear stuff like that all the time. it really makes me sad. i usually dont know what to do. i remember this kid was talking to his asian friend but being a real jackass. saying a bunch of racist stuff, but i knew he was joking... but it was really harsh. and i started to cry. even though it wasnt directed to me, but i could just hear everything. and then there was this one time... when this kid was telling the class how all asians look the same and all this weird stuff. and he said that... and his desk is sitting right in front of mine. he said all that right in front of me?
and i know what you mean when people assume what ethnicity i am. they always think i am chinese or japanese. and say "konichiwa". every time i went to the this mexican restaurant, the guy would always say that. so i stopped going there. ><
and one girl even asked if asians didnt have peripheral vision! wtf. racism is really hard to deal with. but... yeah. i've had my fair share of it. no actaul hate crimes or anything though.
