Weird traditions
Or not so weird traditions.
What's a small or big tradition that your family has? Does it play a significant role to your religion or ethnicity?
My family has small traditions. My real father is Japanese and my mom is Irish. I grew up with my mom and every year that I can remember, we go to Irish Fest together during March. We basically spend the entire day, roaming around, eating, and going to different stands, it's usually packed as well. This takes place at Balboa Park, which is not only a great place for culture celebrations, but has a beautiful theme throughout it.
That's just one of the small traditions that my mom and I do together.
So, what are your experiences?
Share them. :]

Yeah, some things just go unnoticed because we're so use to them. My family waits until Christmas morning to open gifts. Some people open gifts at midnight.. We open them around 10 AM on the 25th. Everyone I know opens gifts at midnight, so I think it's weird for me.

Tradition is that we never go and celebrate holidays. :P
Neither mom nor dad is any religion [odd since many American Koreans are Christian for some reason] so we don't really care much.

It does. Plus, she threw me into church choir, so my weekends are always busy. D: I hate it when my parents volunteer me for things.

ive never heard of opening them at midnight before : O?? i always open them with my sister and mom whenever i wake up christmas morning. and my mom hides a pickle ordanment on the tree the night before (when shes putting out all the gifts like santa hehe) and whoever finds it gets to open the first present. and on easter my mom hides our baskets and leaves hints around the house that are from the easter bunny. lol.
most of my traditions i guess are just holiday ones. we dont have a religion and we arent very family oriented because all our relatives live on the east coast plus its just me and my mom (and my sister during holidays) at home.
one tradition that we dont have is eating dinner at the table together. a lot of families dont though nowadays. we only do it on thanksgiving and christmas.

Pinkhaired: My mom does the Easter thing too! It's my favorite! xD Hiding a pickle in a tree.. Is.. Um.. Er.. Weird? xD It sounds funny. I should draw that. A lot of families don't eat at the table anymore, you're right. I'm glad your mom and keeps you and sister going on holidays. :] It's always fun.

and we always open our gifts on christmas day, not on eve midnight. and we meet at this place whenever someone old in our family has a birthday- we just go there and eat and hang out pretty much. I think that's really all we do lol.

My post is totally irrelevant to "holiday traditions," but here goes lol...
I don't know if this is part of traditional Filipino culture, or if it's just a family tradition, but...
In my family, when a girl gets her period for the first time, she's supposed to sit on the third step of the stairs (third step from the bottom) so that when she gets her period regularly, it won't be "heavy" for too many days, and menstruation symptoms won't be as bad.

haha your table talk manners? my dad farts at the table
we actually have like three tables because we regularly have people coming over to eat.
like my cousin who we kind of adopted whenever he was young- he never leaves our house lol. so we have like a picnic table sort of lol (which is our main table) and then we have an island and then in the dining room diagonal from the kitchen, we have this really fancy table lol. but everyone can always hear everyone else lol.
