Default any BBC's here?? ^x^

so yeah i'm a BBC (British Born Chinese) and i was curious to see how many of us are here on asiajam ^^ ...i'm proud to have been brought up in Scotland, however ..when i'm in my home country i experience racism and when i'm in HK i experience discrimination cos i'm not from there. it annoys me ...what have ur experiences been? any identity issues?

oh and check this out ..its funny hehe

You know if you are a BBC if...

1)Your parents run a greasy Chinese takeaway
2) Your friend's parents worked in a distinctly non-greasy office
3) You spent every weekend of your teens taking telephone orders or frying rice.
4) Your friends spent every weekend of their teens getting drunk and getting laid
5) You spent every Sunday of your teens with your whole bloody family having Dimsum in Chinatown
6) Your friends spent every Sunday of their teens sneaking out of their boy/girlfriend's bed nursing a nasty hangover
7) Your parents slagged you off because you only got 2As and 7Bs in your GCSEs
8) Your friend's parents issued lavish praise over their children for attaining 2As and 7Bs in their GCSEs
9) Your parents have already decided that you WILL become a doctor/lawyer/accountant
10) Your friend's parents (who ARE doctors/lawyers/accountants) will let their kids become anything they want to be (i.e. surf instructor, holiday program presenter, regular Chinese takeaway customers....)
11) Your parents were an embarrassment at School parent's evenings
12) Your friends' parents were they epitemy of cool at School parent's evenings
13) At intro week at University when you introduce yourself with your given name everybody just replies 'What was that????'
14) At intro week at Uni everybody else gets laid upon first introductions (and THEN they say 'What was that????')

yea, I am an identity issue! lol

I'm not BBC but everytime I go to cultural functions I get lots of looks and questions like "what are you?" (my response in my head....human but I'm starting to think I'm an alien)

I get it a lot at school too, they try and guess what ethnic background I have.
The guesses are usually saying that I'm mixed which is close cuz I am.
I get a lot of people thinking I'm Filipino...nope go more west and NW.

One weird combination and it was offensive considering my features.
It was african/chinese. The reason being offensive was that I have very luscious lips and big, both top lip and bottom.

(sidenote: The stereotypical feature of africans is that they have big lips)

At first when they said it I didn't think anything of it but I asked why and that was their response, "because you have big lips and you look asian"...

some people...sigh...ignorance....sigh....

I'm a BBC ^^ I can't say I'm fully proud of it, my level of Cantonese has dropped to such a low and it makes me feel so shameful sometimes =S Especially when other people around you like certain friends or family that can speak it so nicely and then I'm just there mixing it up with English xp. Also my relatives (grandparents mainly) take the piss sometimes.

@kawaiiangel: What you said about Scotland and HK is so true for me too and it's so annoying. One time I got too deep into my thoughts and just kept thinking about questions about who I am and so on xp.
