Well, whites are such a diverse group. People can have Irish pride, German, and etc. and no one calls them racist. No one goes around yelling "white pride!" because that doesn't really make sense. There are a ton of multicultural clubs and such here, like Ukrainian, for example, so I don't know what that guy's talking about.

I agree with the myspace post though.
Once again, sorry if i sounded harsh.

I think it all comes down to strict personal preferences, rather than what is "universally right or wrong."
As for "white holidays", the U.S. has "Columbus Day"... would that count as one? (Ironically, the same holiday is considered a day of mourning in Latin America...)

you do have to go with the universally right or wrong sometimes though since you dont know everyone's personal preference.. ^ ^

It's a relaly tough thing to thoink about, and mostly I am sitting on the wall (in the middle) about it.. I see both points of veiw.
I think in that case (with the Mysopace mesage) acutally that was wrong, and I disagree with how he/she wrote it.
I do agree in some ways- that caucasian folk get labelled as being the racist stuck up lot compared to other minorities. and I KNOW of some people in the past who have used this to get others into trouble (eg. back in school, there was a guy who was african, and tbh he was simply an asshole in personality. someone mentioned this, but the guy immideatly accused him of being Racist-even though it had notihng to do with his ethnicity, just his perosnality.)
so, I can see that side, and maybe that's what he/she was tryin to get across?
- although!! I really don't agree with what that message said, because it seemed to me he/she was bascially saying ; 'you make fun of different cultures witihn my ethnicity, so it's O.K for me to be NASTY and Racist about yours.' <-- so to me it seemed like they were using this other way of thinking as an excuse just ot be as bad.
IMO, no-one should be racist, wether you are majority or minority!! It's no excuse. i wonder why people find it so hard to except others?
also, yeah, it's really annoying that you can't say anything without offending soemone or someone getting the wrong end of the stick O//O; I tihnk names like certain words shouldn't be used at all >_<; but nowadays it's like you just say 'black person' and you get into trouble!; ^_^; (is there any other way to define people if you don't know their names ??) I bet even now i may have offended someone;. I'm sorry if i did , too!!

I think you're absolutely right pinkhaired. But it's a little different for white people, because there are so many different nationalities of white people. So if you had made a Caucasian only club, it would just be like an international club...excluding black people. Which would probably make it racist because all you're focusing on is the skin color. So really, these clubs have to be for nationalities (and minorities, like Asians because there may not be a large group of one Asian nationality) rather than skin color.
I hope no one posted exactly what I just said..^^' Didn't read through the whole thread...:x

although i am not caucasian i have always thought about everything that was posted in the 1st post. i have always noticed that in society, caucasians can't do the same thing as every other race/ethnicity. i am not racist at all, i think that whole skin-color crap is bullshit. our skin color is due to science and the sun. it does not reflect who we are @ all. but i think that the reason why caucasian people are found to be racist so easily is because of all the bad things they did to other races in the past.
and Asians don't even have a Asian History Month but i strongly believe we should.
there are also lots of different nationalities of asian people. not all asian people are chinese, as a lot of people assume.

Well actually, I'm Asian myself but I wouldn't really care if someone called me yellow. I guess the term isn't really used much because I think that yellow in the old days meant cowardly, you like in those Western movies: "Why don'tcha duel me, you yellow bellied liver sucker blah blah?"
But white and black aren't used to be offensive..."slanteye" is racial slur.
Hmm...
Somehow it seems weird to say "European" and "African" when you're talking about people but no one has qualms about using "Asian"...

I think skin colour can also somewhat be tied to genetics. How come Mongolians have a tan tint to their skin even if they stay inside all the time, or how Filipinos have a brownish tint even though they stay inside as well? It's also our family that can help determine a "base" colour of the skin.
Europeans aren't the only people who've done bad things. Asians have done bad things to Europeans and Africans [lulz slave trade, lulz Jenghis Khan] and etcetera.

Does it? I use 'European' and 'African' to refer to people who haven't had long family history in America and I use 'white' and 'black' for those who do.
Maybe if they used the term 'Anglo-Saxon Americans' they'd be better off. Or at least white Americans. XP

You would NEVER hear someone say "There's just way too many black people in Harlem" or "There are too many Hispanics in Brooklyn" or "Chinatown lacks white culture."
|
I have heard people say that there's too many black people in Chicago. And I myself like to say that Chinatown lacks any non-Chinese culture.
When I hear 'black pride' I don't think of black pride I think of those Black Panthers from the 70's. When I hear 'Asian pride' I think of little Asian-American teenagers who really need to replace the Asian pride with some national pride. When I hear 'white pride' I think of those racist white power groups that like to don white hoods. I just really associate those ___ pride with whatever group I hear it from the most so.... if these proud, white people don't wanna be treated the same way those supremacist groups do...they should try to choose another word.
And btw, if a school even allows clubs to have racial exclusion in the first place... well there's already something wrong. The clubs in my school invited those of the ___ descent and enthusiasts of ______ or anyone who's damn curious.
