Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
The idea sounds a little crazy, but I know people have done it before. And I'm interested in it myself. So, how do you do it?
I've never worn a skirt or a dress in winter, but I have some ideas about doing so. There are leggings, tights, and pantyhose of course, and it's also an option to wear the dresses/skirts over pants. I think id it's not too terribly cold, leggings and maybe pantyhose/tights underneath that could be good at keeping me warm. I could also wear legwarmers or long socks on the outside too. The only problem with that would be my butt getting too cold, but I don't think I will be outside long enough for that to be a problem. XD
What are your ideas? How do you wear your pretty dresses and skirts, even in the winter!?

Re: Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
I wear skirts and dresses in the winter. I usually cope by adding on layers. For example, I have an outfit that consists of a long sleeved blouse, a pinstripe vest, and a jacket for my top half. For my bottom half I wear petti-pants over my underwear, a knee-length skirt, and long socks. This combo is pretty darn warm.
The main concern of skirts/dresses in winter are the legs which are left exposed. As you said, legwarmers/socks/leggings would help keep your legs warm.
As for your butt, maybe you could wear bloomers or petti-pants underneath your skirt/dress. They would help keep that area nice and toasty. ^_^

I wear dress and skirts in winter. But it's easy for me because my legs never get cold. So my advice would be wear a cute sweater on your top half. That's what I'd do.

Hmm, bloomers....The last time I wore those was when I was a cheerleader in elementary school! XD I can see how they would work though, so thanks for that advice! I know American Apparel has some things that aren't bloomers, but are hot shorts made out of the same material as leggings. My only concern with those types of things would be any lines that would show through.

Oh, my legs would freeze with nothing on them! I'm nearly always cold. Sweaters are a great option for the top though. I also have a long sleeve shirts which I can layer underneath others to keep me from getting chilly.

Re: Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
I used to only wear skirts in the winter, as I hate my legs - they used to ALWAYS be covered in bruises! And since the summer is too warm to wear thick wooly tights, I wore them with skirts in winter =P
Plus there's always legwarmers and fluffy boots. And I've worn trousers under skirts before...but unless you don't mind people making comments I don't recommend it.
And I agree with Magdalene about the knee length skirts and long socks thing. You wouldn't think it'd be warm, but it is!

Thick wooly tights? I wonder where they sell those. Most of the time I just see them made of thin material.
I have this knifty knitter set (it's a plastic knitting loom series)--maybe I could make my own legwarmers!
Yeah, skirts over pants can be okayy, maybe, but I think it's better to wear skirts without them.
I'll have to try the long socks--I've been wanting to get some from American Apparel anyway.

Re: Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
I usually wear the skirt over a legging (i luvv leggings O_O)..and to make it look cuter I also wear a legwarmer and a fluffy boots~~ Or sometimes I wear a thigh-high/ knee-high socks..just like wat Magdalene said!! It looks pretty cuteee :3 or u can wear a stocking..I do that sometimes...
And for dresses, you could just wear a hoodie/ jacket or watever over the dress..and then wear a leggings/ stockings/ legwarmers so you're not gonna get cold~ Then just wear a boots to finish up the outfit x3 Well..that's how I always do it ^^

Re: Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
I wear skirts all year round, I much prefer them over pants as I have a *ahem* larger than normal sized bottom & therefore find skirts more accommodating & flattering to my shape. I find wearing tights, long boots, a jumper & coat on the rest of my body ensures I stay warm enough. We don't get particularly cold winters down here though (not compared to other parts of the world). If you're still cold I would try a beanie/cute hat & ear muffs as I've heard you lose a lot of heat through your head.

Thanks for the extra advice!
I think I may go with the leggings+leg warmers/long socks combo. Sock Dreams has a ton of different styles and lengths for leg warmers and socks, and they are pretty inexpensive too, so I think I'll get some from there (or put a giftcard from there on my xmas list)!
I've got a coat that'll keep me warm, and a hat, gloves, and scarves too.
Here's sorta how I might wear my dresses:
Note: the white 'arms' are supposed to stand for the longsleeve shirt I would be wearing underneath the dresses. Also, it's a badly drawn picture, so I apologize. My boots are shown, but I think tennis shoes could work too.

They don't seem to do them in many places, my mum usually buys them for me xP But I guess they sell them in less trendy places, since apparently to be trendy you're expected to freeze yourself =P

Re: Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
I wear skirts, dresses, and jumpers all the time in the winter. I just wear think tights with them. Sometimes I even layer two pairs if it's really cold. I don't think leggings will keep you warm enough, and I don't really like the look of pants underneath them. Just wear a long sleeved top or sweater with it if it's really cold! But I guess that's pretty obvious...

Can your mom buy some for me? XD Joking, joking.
Actually, I found some at sockdreams.com. They are kinda of expensive though, like $30~$40.

Yeah, legging material doesn't really seem like the type to retain heat. That's why I plan on covering those up with cute socks!
And yeah, I've tossed the pants+skirts idea. :X

Re: Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
I'm doing the same thing, I usually have leggings whenever I'm wearing skirt during winter, and of course a sweater. It depends upon how your body would react in the cold cold weather. . .

Re: Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
I love to wear dresses and skirts in all seasons ^^ If it's very cold i use tights and leggings at the same time, or wear some boots so it's only the knee area that gets a little cold And long coats help aswell
It normally gets pretty cold here in mid-October and lasts till about last in March.. So it's a long Winter

Re: Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
I just started wearing dresses and skirts during the winter last year. People would sometimes make comments about me being crazy or my mom would be very vocal about how she hates it, but I just ignored it. I recommend doing the same if people pester you too. They'll get used to it.
To stay warm, as others said, make sure you always have your legs covered. I really like to wear tights, knee socks, or thigh high socks. I'd really like to invest in some cozy wool tights though... Another thing you could do is wear a big warm sweater with it. The combination is actually pretty cute too.
Oh and boots are always really nice to wear so you can keep your feet warm too.

Re: Wearing Skirts and Dresses in Winter
I usually wear knit dresses and skirts during the chilly days. Whenever I try to wear leggings or stockings, they end up clinging onto the fabric with makes it look icky, so I usually wear long knit socks, or boots. As long as I keep my chest warm, I'll be okay. x]
