real or faux?
I found this street style pic from Tokyo (Ginza), and was trying to figure if this scarf is real or faux??
This is the link for the whole outfit (pic on top, left):
http://www.style-arena.jp/ginza/2006/12/e_w3.htm
Can anyone else tell??

Well, I've heard lots about Japanese people not really giving a damn about animals, and somewhere I was reading a blog from this vegetarian who lived in Tokyo, and both of those pieces of info point towards it being real.
besides, it does look too freakishly realistic for faux. :x

I think it's real.
And if not, they're going really out of their way to make it look real, adding a fake dead animal head attached...unless that's common o.O

probably real
like Ragdoll said many Japanese dont seem to be the biggest animal activists haha. like, Japans government condones whaling, the eating of whale burgers, etc
but why do you care if its fake or not? o___o

Is it really even possible to tell from a photograph alone?
I hope it wasn't real though. I hate clothings being made from animal fur...because it's like they were killed just for that reason.

Eating animals is different though. You get that extra protein and energy for nutritional purposes. But fur...? There's millions of other materials we can use to make clothings out of it. I just dont see any justification in torturing an animal to make a scarf.

real or faux
They do have faux pieces that look exactly like that, so it could be fake.

most animals that are killed for their skin are also killed for the meat (not necessarily for consuption in the U.S., but a lot of countries eat rabbit meat...)...do you really think that a businessman who's in the fur business is going to use an animal for it's fur only when he can make more money selling the rest of it for other reasons as well?

oh my goodness ... well, i'm vegan and i can assure you that there are plenty of non-animal derived sources of protein and energy.
http://www.vegansociety.com/html/food/nutrition/
"In conventional nutrition, animal products are seen as a key source of protein, iron, zinc and vitamin B12, while dairy products are seen as a key source of calcium. However, zinc and iron are found in useful amounts in many whole grains, nuts, seeds and legumes and vegans are no more likely to become anaemic than anyone else. Protein is found in adequate amounts in most plant foods: it is fairly low in fruit, potatoes and rice, but particularly high in legumes. With regard to calcium,100 grams of spring greens, kale, mustard greens or Chinese cabbage provide about the same amount of retained calcium as a cup of cow's milk."

I dont think theres anything wrong with the actual act of consuming animals (Carnivorous animals hunt each other down and eat all the time afterall)
I think what PETA and other anti-cruelty campaigns are really just against the cruelness of how they raise these to-be-eaten animals. Chickens in KFC are kept in these very tiny, tiny cages with hardly any room to move. They try to maximize their profits without keeping in mind of the ethnics behind it...which is REALLY messed up. It would be okay if the animals lived a happy life in a nice environment before they enter the slaughter house.
I would LIKE to be a vegan and all but...I absolutely despise the taste of vegetables. Not much options left from there.

ohh thats not true. im not a huge vegetable fan either...
and its not just KFC that treats their chickens like that its basically everywhere. they cut their beaks off so they wont try to kill eachother. then they're injected with all sorts of hormones and pesticides so they'll grow faster and not get sick. and then you are eating all that junk that has been put inside them...

i think PETA goes wayyy too far though. my sister has a flyer that they were handing out to kids that says "your mommy kills animals" and had a comic about how your mom allows animals to be like abused and kills them or something totally weird O_O.
haha yeah i would not be able to survive. i hattte all vegetables and im allergic to most of the fruit i like. i also dont eat/drink any dairy products, so basically all i eat is meat and bread. and candy. i take lotsa vitamins though :3
