I've been doing my best to keep up with Hurricane Ike. It's dreadful that we keep getting hurricanes. It's dreadful when a hurricane hits any place.

Acutally I live in Katy, Right on the border of Houston and got hit by it while it was a catergory 2. There were damage here but after the hurricane passed at night, people came right out. Everyone began sweeping the debris, and the leaves and the shingles that came off. The next night it stormed, and then I went outside, bright and sunny. People had their knocked over fences lifted up and their broken trees chopped up and moved the corner for the trash and leaves bagged. And the only real problem for most people was that the power was out.

Yet I watched the news and heard that Galveston was being hushed hushed. They were talking about how they folks who refused to evacuate even though government insisted that they leave, because the winds were like a CAT 4, they stayed. They were told to put their Social Security Number on them so they could be identified. Phones were coming in the night during the storm for help, but it was to dangerous to send out people. The next day, not a phone call was heard. That's when they started controlling the air space around Galveston. The news complained about Freedom of Speech, and was then allowed in.

The only good things that came out of it, was no school for a week, the grass was watered, and everyone seemed to appreciate each other more. As for Galveston.....I don't know how to defend the city, because they knew what was coming and had a mandatory evacuation.

I'm really glad that it wasn't too horrible where you lived. That's really good to hear. Usually when I hear about hurricanes the damage is a lot worse, so I'm glad to hear that nothing super bad happened.

Hmmm... Galveston does sound to have had a pretty rough time. I don't know, I'm pretty sure that I'd have left if they told me to. I hope that the people who stayed are alright.

*nodd nodd* No school for a week, grass watered, and more appreciation for each other is quite a good side-effect for a hurricane. Do you have to make up that week over summer? I know that some schools do that... well okay, maybe not for hurricanes. And I agree for Galveston.

Cha.
It hit my town.
Though not that bad.
The worst that happened was a few fences gone, some shingles taken off roofs (a few caved in) and a lot of tree limbs down. (my house has the biggest pile of teree limbs. Our tree split in half so we had to cut it all down.)

But my town was on the good side of the storm.
And a lot of people are getting back power. (YAY! I've had mine)

I love how lots of people are just trying to help out and just make everything smooth.

And woohoo for no school for a week!!!!
I'm enjoying it!

^I'm really glad to hear that your town wasn't horribly damaged. I really wish I could be there to help out.
