Harajuku Lovers Sues Forever 21
http://www.shopdiary.com/2007/07/16/...es-forever-21/
Now I know this is old news, but it just made me so mad.
All these stores are ripping Harajuku Lovers off!!
I saw a tee at Charlotte Russe that looked exactly like a Harajuku Lovers shirt, and I couldnt believe it. Ironically, and this is no joke, they were playing a Gwen Stefani song over the speakers in the store at that same moment.

Haha, people are always copying off each other's designs, I mean, even asiajam carries a bunch of non-official hello kitty stuff but no one complains '___'

Yeah. Everyone pretty much knocks off someone else in some way or another.
Meh. I think that Harajuku Lovers had it coming. (They're probably going after Forever 21 cause they have money too haha.) She tried to copy off the Japanese too, but you don't see them suing her because she didn't do a very good job of it anyways...

I did a little bit of reading, and guess what? Gwen is getting sued by Lesportsac for "stealing" their purse designs. Talk about irony, LOL!
http://www.filly.ca/entertainment/st...ndbag-Line.asp
I also found this nice little quote from The Devil Wears Prada~
“This… ’stuff’? Oh… ok. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select out, oh I don’t know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don’t know is that that sweater is not just blue, it’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis, it’s actually cerulean. You’re also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar De La Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves St Laurent, wasn’t it, who showed cerulean military jackets? And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of 8 different designers. Then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic casual corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of stuff.”
So there's no need to be mad over who steals what, because as thisquote says, everything trickles down in the fashion world =]

F21 also "copied" some lamb designs (like the "where did my little lamb go" sweaters) BUT many stores have done this same thing. many stores copy big designers. That doesn't mena it doesn't suck, but it does happen a lot. Usually when that item has been around for a while and gained popularity, you will see cheaper versions of it. they won't be quite the same but very similar.
But now that i see that story, WOW. Look at that giraffe tee, could that be anymore obvious of a copy?

Blah, Gwen's shit is overpriced and unoriginal to begin with.. Some is cute, but not at her price tags. I'd rather buy something similar at Forever 21 anyway.

Yeah, this is more than just a case of inspiration "trickling down"...Gwen is a hack to begin with, so what's her business picking on people just as fake as her? Whatever all those clothes are ugly anyway.

lol im so oblivious to her fashion line. i didnt even know that she had a perfume. lol.
but its called "harajuku" lovers so obviously she got inspiration/rip-off from japan.
shes not hiding it and claiming that she made it up herself. shes giving credit for it by calling it "harajuku lovers". and she admits that she steals her ideas in an interview. everybody "steals/rips-off" from everything/everyone.
so i dont really get whats the big deal about being so against harajuku lovers.
someone enlighten me, plz.
I dont see how its any different from other fashion lines......
but the whole suing thing is kind of silly.
I mean asiajam is no different from forever 21.

O_o
....I need to make sure that I don't forget to restrain myself from showing that to my boyfriend before he goes on a rampage for that perfume bottle and destroys the entire store for stealing L's logo.
Why an L anyway? What's the "story" behind it (if in existence) unless it IS a ripoff..... even though I have seen an actual font of that, lol. ...But THEN AGAIN.... she probably did ripoff Death Note to try and attract more people into anime and "Harajuku" u__u

That's my favourite part/line in The Devil Wears Prada!
--
And not only is it true for fashion, but pretty much anything in life that involves creation. Art, writing, music...There's a fine line between inspiration and copying. Play it off as an ode, or assure it as an original uninfluenced spark of imagination (the coincidence is possible). Sometimes I think there's no such thing as originality. Just influences/inspiration with an individual touch derived from personal growth which is what makes it differ, makes a style. And is that the actual definition of originality and what it is to have it? - the recognition? Being the one lucky enough to make it memorable? Make it 'yours'?
When you put your work out there and it becomes big, there is always the risk of it being the spawn of knock-offs. It's profitable and makes the people who can't afford/or refuse to pay 44$ for a t-shirt happy. I guess that's business...as one of the Shopdiary comments said, people want what they can't have.
But I have to say that those side-by-side comparisons of designs are just....funny. They're practically identical and begging for trouble. '~'

Love. Angel. Music. Baby., her debut solo album uses the same typeface with the decadent Old Englishiness letters as the L printed on her perfume. It's on most of her stuff.

Her clothing line (L.A.M.B.) came out in November 2003. Her album came out in 2004. And the manga Death Note began running in December 2003, but the anime broadcast in October 2006. Her perfume came out selectively in July 2007...
Either way, this is funny: http://www.livevideo.com/video/75875...rfume-par.aspx ^_^
