I wanna learn some korean, cuz where I live, all the asian people are korean...
But for some reason, I can't register anything korean...
When I hear it, it confuses me.
When I see it, I get even more confused.
And when I try to say it, it sounds bad!
Maybe with this, I'll learn something ^__^

Korean IS much harder to pronounce... :F lol... not many places offer Korean classes. I went to a privately owned Korean school [all Korean except for a few white ppl, lol, it was funny] and it was a waste of $$.
UW and UCLA offer Korean classes but those are the only places I know of.

My grandma is Korean and I would soo love to surprise her and have a conversation with her in korean. I'm going to use the links to try and learn it! Ooh, I do have a question for you lovely scholars. How would you spell my name in korean? If you know. It's Shante'. And pronounced Shawn-tay. :]

I'd probably write your name as 샨태
Writing names from English to Korean can often have many different possibilities though, for example I asked some Koreans how I'd write my name, Caitlin, and 케이틀린 was the most common answer, so I stuck with that, but then recently when I started my Korean class, the teacher wrote my name on the board as 캐틀린, so now I use that. ^^

Syantae? I would probably write, "산테" just to make it easier [San-te], just like what your teacher did. Writing more letters than needed is so unnecessary.

San-te. They don't have 'sh'? Now that I think about it- I think that's how my grandma says me name san-te. Haha. Thanks for letting us know, I need different opinions!

Nope... Korean is a very simplistic writing system. If it was Japanese, I could write you "Shante" very easily though, lol.

They have a Sh.
But mostly only whne ever an S is followed by an I
so s+i=shi or ㅅ+ㅣ=시(shi) But it's not romanized that way is it?

^ It's also pronounced as 'sh' when it's followed by a 'y' vowel, like ㅑㅕㅛㅠ etc, the logic there being that 'y' vowels are a bit like 이 and the main part of the vowel put together. 이 + 아, 이 + 어, etc, when pronounced quickly, would be 야 and 여, just basically contracted. Hope that paragraph wasn't too confusing. x]
Anyway, for example, the verb 'to shower' is not written as 샤워하다 just to have more letters, it's so that it will be pronounced as 'sha-wuh' rather than 'sa-wuh' which would otherwise be 사워하다. That's why I figured her name would be 샨태 because I'd want to keep the 'sh' in my name. So it woudn't be pronunced syantae, it'd be sh[y]antae, the 'y' being in brackets because I notice it's not even really pronounced when it follows ㅅ, as in 샤워하다. Ehehe, just my reasoning. ^^

I wouldn't consider it "sh"... it's more like a "C" sound when you say it, "see." And the two S's are pronounced with a more harder s sound.
no, it's not romanized as "Shi" because it's literally impossible in the Korean alphabet to have two different consonants together in one block.
