It's interesting, I speak Chinese and when I watch Kdramas with English subs they use a few of the same words as us. Just like Japanese, I think they got borrowed from the language.

I'm a disgrace to the Korean race.
I'm 100% Korean and I can't speak it >.<
I can understand it, read it, kinda speak it, and poorly write it, but that's about it. I'm planning to go to Korea for a month after my senior year and learn Korean.

Chinese, Japanese and Korean do share similar words. It's not really considered borrowing like "anime" and "animation" is, but just how the languages evolved. Like 'kyoda' and 'kawaii' for Korean & japanese, then "hakkyo" and "gakkou" in the same two languages.

Yeah well borrowing words would make sense,
They do that for alot of languages, take french and english for example
"calme" "calm"
You know,,
I was pretty far into my korean studies like i could write paragraphs. but i just stopped and im losing it all D:
I just couldn't get vocab down it was overwhelming,

To be cute is 귀엽다, or 귀여워 conjugated. Or if you're using it as a direct noun-modifier (such as cute boy, cute clothes, etc.) it would be 귀여운 _____.
To be skinny/thin/slender is 가늘다, or 가늘어 conjugated. And just as above, as a noun-modifier it would be... I think... 가는 _____.

I set myself a new goal, I'm going to teach myself korean, and I'm going to practise at least 15 minutes a day (I am a very busy person so I'm not sure if I can practise more, but I'll try) but anyways, I found this website from the university of seoul and it's very good to use because it helps with the pronouncation too, so I wanted to share it with you
here you go

Re: The Korean language! Learn it, practice it, ask about it...
ah!
im trying to learn korean.
but there is like NOTHING asian in my town.
and my school only offers european languages. (im taking français)
so im stuck learning it from my friend who taught herself.
all i know is hello, thank you, sorry, and how to write my name.
but i am practicing the alphabet and i think i got it down.
one thing that sucks though...is on my computer i dont have the program that lets your see any asian characters.
so all i see is a little skinny box.

so i have to rely only on pictures of words.
but i REALLY want to learn.
haha

Re: The Korean language! Learn it, practice it, ask about it...
a PC.
its an XP
but we never uploaded the program for the asian characters.
(the one that goes i think with word and powerpoint and stuff)
but im going to ask my dad if he can try to put it on there.
cause its really depressing without it.
especially if i go to online asian shops.
everything is boxes.

Re: The Korean language! Learn it, practice it, ask about it...
Here's something you can try. Not sure if it will help...
(I use IE7 but you can probably do the same or something similar with another brower...)
View > Encoding > More...
Then select Korean or whatever language from the list. The page will then refresh and, hopefully, those boxes and whatever will look normal. Might not work though, I guess. Give it a try if you haven't, though!
You know how to type the different fonts on your computer?^^
