I disagree. I think hard work and effort is what brings sucess. If a person has an IQ of 140 but does nothing about it, then what good would that be? Even the less-than-educated man can go far if he is very driven. When Einstein was a child he had speech impairment, but with a bit of push he became one of the world's most intelligent icon.

And besides, attractive people (on average) have better jobs, higher incomes, and are socially skillful than the average joe. Why? Cause they are treated better in life, and that have a HUGE impact on their outcomes.

yeah i've heard people take a longer look at people who aren't perfect but just special or not completely perfect.

i would rather be smart .. than pretty

I know appearance now a days is important.

But what have been said before: when you get older it's not that important anymore.

I have friends that are pretty but what's the benefit, that people say :

youre pretty, or always pay attention at you ? well i think it's rather more exhausting : you 'll always have to look nice and so on. (or even hate you because they're jealous)


furthermore I would like to change things about myself but

there are always people that like you for who you are that are real friends, not because your ugly/pretty or really smart.

trying hard in life is also an accomplishment

i'm not pretty i'm not really smart but at least I'm trying!.

intelligence is definitely better than beauty, IMO.

i'd rather have a girl who's average looking but can hold good conversations than a really pretty girl who doesn't know the difference between chicken and tuna.

but if we're talking about which i'd prefer on myself... well, i'd still say intelligence. Coz if i was really smart i wouldn't need the looks in order to pull a girl! (and if its not about getting a girl, then there's still no point in looking good!)

seeing as the choices are:

A. intelligent but decent looking (hence, still some room for physical appreciation)
or
B. hot with average smarts

I'd pick A as a girlfriend, more for the fact that I'd like someone who I don't necessarily have to dumb things down to all the time. Having both a hot and intelligent girlfriend would kick ass though lol.

If it's about me, I'd choose B, since it's a fact that hotter people get treated better, and I simply need to be intelligent enough to get that to work for me and turn into a huge success.

I am intelligent but only decent looking!
Many guys today go for the sexy and hot girls.
But I;m glad I don't have a big butt or chest.

My sister has a lot of good looks and she's smart.
She always tells me that I'm lucky because guys don't pay attention to me because of my butt or chest.

I think brains are worth more because it can take you far.

I think I'm fine just the way I am. I really value intelligence but I'm not dumb,I think I'm fairly smart, I'll survive in this world.
And looks are nice to have, I'm glad with the ones I have now. But I try not to say arrogant things about it,I'm proud of how I look,just like my mama.
People'll still be mistaking me for a 7th grader when I'm in college!!

I do have an IQ of 140 actually (yeah, like 140 exactly). And most people I know would call me intelligent. I myself, however, think that I am more talented than intelligent. I don't always get straight A's (well I used to, before I took AP classes)- my A's are mostly from math, science, music, and programming- because I never actually study . I have to work hard just to get a B in English, too. So yea, I agree that if one has a high IQ but does nothing about it, that IQ is merely a number.

In terms of looks.. I think I look decent XD. My boyfriend thinks I'm beautiful though lol. YAY~ So I think that's good enough. Even though it doesn't hurt to be prettier :P But I also think that beauty has many forms. Some can be seen easily, some can't. So... yeah I don't know anymore. I just lost my train of thought

I'm not like super cute or pretty or something, but I've got someone to make me feel beautiful, and I think that's all that matters. If I get somewhat prettier then YAY, if I don't then it's all good.

Just be happy with what you got XD. 'Cause not everyone is lucky enough to have what you have.

I have a different opinion on 'beauty' than most people. I see everyone as beautiful. Even the people who most other people see as incredible have flaws, like everyone else. So I just pretty much look for the good qualities in a person, even if it's the smallest thing like their height, and see them as pretty.

The same goes for intelligence. I think everyone is intelligent in their own way. Not everyone is book-smart, yet intelligent in other ways. So in the same way I look for their type of intelligent, and then they're intelligent to me.

And I think everyone has a pretty good mix of both of them. And I don't base my opinion on one or the other :] It just depends on their personality plus which mix of each I like..

i think intelligence can come just as naturally as good looks in most cases. some things just come more naturally to certain people. i like to believe that everyone is born with a gift... at least ONE thing that they can really excel at... so maybe you're not a GENIUS? you may be extremely gifted at art. maybe you're not as pretty as you wish you were... but you could be a great athlete.

this all goes without saying... there aren't just TWO extremes [good looking vs. intelligence] there are so many other factors to consider... like you may be ugly AND stupid and be blessed with some other gift/trait.

In my opinion, if you just took the question as it is, then you could say that intelligence is worth more than beauty...but I agree with what some of the jammers have said, that with hard work and dedication, you could end up a genius! But on the other hand, if you took good care of yourself; ate healthily, exercised, did you hair and make-up nice etc., you could pull of being a 'beautiful' person. But you sorta have to think about what beauty really is to answer the question...I mean, doesn't everybody have their own perception of beauty? Like, I would personally think that a beautiful person is someone who is a little bit different and interesting, and they embrace it. But then again I may see someone who is quite plain and ordinary, but still has pretty features etc. It's weird, because we all have our own opinions.
And do you think beauty is solely focused around looks alone? Could it not be the essence of that person? Like, their personality and attitude to life and stuff...you could get an average looking person who is super talented and has a certain 'air' about them that would make you think that they are beautiful. Okay, I'm totally rambling here, but it makes sense in my head :]
I know that a lot of the younger girls at my school would consider 'beauty' to be having clear skin, gorgeous hair, big beautiful eyes etc., and they want to be that. But in my opinion, beauty is something that is natural...
Like, I don't really think I'm pretty or beautiful, but I can accept who I am, flaws and all And I know that my boyfriend thinks I'm beautiful *blush* and loves me the way I am, because I'm me.
