Re: The Happening. . .
I saw it weeks ago and it's forgettable. I'm of the opinion that M.Night always has a problem with his endings The start is okay and the middle can either be okay or it starts going downhill from there but one sure thing is that his endings are never as good as you hope it to be.

Re: The Happening. . .
I'm glad I haven't seen it yet. I haven't been interested in his last few movies. The last one I saw really did suck. And I had no interest in seeing this one. Now I'm glad that I didn't want to.

Re: The Happening. . .
I like M. Night Shyamalan's movies but this was lacking something. I enjoyed it since I'm a fan of his and I basically enjoy watching any of his movies but its better than Lady in the Water IMO.
See it for the sake of seeing it. lol
I always want to watch bad review movies to come up with my own criticism. As they can be often different from the general public. lolol

Re: The Happening. . .
My favorite film of his was The Village. Critics will only love you for so long after Sixth Sense when you haven't made a hit since then

Re: The Happening (2008) Reviews
Hahaha XD I thought it was okay!
Funny story: I was gonna watch this movie with 3 friends on a sleepover, and I had to search for the subtitles for this movie.
My smarty-pants friend (who was also coming to the sleepover) said he found them ~ cause they were hard to find.
I add them to the movie and skipt a bit, to see if they were right, but no subtitles were showing!
So I was like: you suck dude XD It doesn't work.
And he said: just open them in notepad, to see if they're there!
And I openend them and giggled, showing my friend what was inside.
There were only 7 sentences in the document.
And they were about a bike :')
So the next day we watched the movie, without subtitles, and secretly me and my friend were waiting for those 7 sentences, about a bike.
We laughed really hard when the characters said those sentences, cause they were actually the last 7 sentences of the whole movie!!!
MON DIEU...
MON....Vé................LO!
XD it sucked?

Re: The Happening (2008) Reviews
Laura, from what I understood it was the plants and trees doing it? Sort of like the plant world versus the human race wherein they release some sort of pollen or whatever that causes people to start killing themselves.
BakaNeko, oh yeah! That part where the "event" was happening in France LOL!

Re: The Happening (2008) Reviews
I disliked the ignorant and arbitrary use of Science with a capital "S" as a god in the film. It was the answer and salvation for those willing to bow to its awesome power. Not only was this done in a childish way but I also don't believe that Shamalynalamma (i don't really care how you spell his name) had any real notion or understanding of the implication of using science in the way that he did.
Now I'm not bashing science or M.K.S., in fact I loved Unbreakable and The Village. And I studied Psychology for 2 years and took classes on science studies. Science shouldn't be treated as a god and it doesn't have all the answers.

Re: The Happening (2008) Reviews
hey i thought it was a pretty clever. in the "scary movie" sense, i think M.Night took some ordinary, every day harmless things [the plants] and made them scary. it was kinda like "what if these everyday things suddenly became something we would all come to fear?" i mean, you look at plants every day and yeah, whatever they're not scary... but then what if all of a sudden they were trying to KILL you?? and they didn't even have to move or physically attack you... they were just THERE. and then they made you off yourself! lol
and then on the other hand, i think he was making a statement... about how we should be more environmentally friendly per se, because the plants attacking people with their biological warfare or whatever is like the earth punishing humans for mistreating it.
im not a hippie or anything... but it was a decent, logical message in that sense. that's the gist I got from it, anyway....

Yes, the premise was very interesting but I think that the execution was terrible. The acting was terrible, the writing was terrible, the plot was terrible. Also it wasn't scary.

I don't believe that we should be conscious of how we effect the environment because we are afraid of plants killing us. And if plants want to kill us why should we try to save them. It doesn't really make much sense.

well, i agree with you... the movie wasn't AWESOME... but i did find the idea interesting... i mean i appreciated the idea~ and i think it had great potential aside from the unfortunate outcome.

well... i think your logic is backwards there.. because the point was, the plants were getting revenge because of the neglect of the environment, and its not like that would ever really happen to the point where we should all say "oh, well why try to save the plants when they just tried to kill us?" i think the whole premise was that to make people think "what would happen IF plants all got revenge all of a sudden? and how would they do it?"

So if that would never really happen then what is the point? If the point of the movie is to be environmentally friendly because if we arn't then plants will take revenge then we should believe that its possible otherwise there's no point. If no one believes that its possible for plants to attack us (which i don't think anyone does) than there's no point in saying we should be afraid of it happening. And if it does happen it wouldn't make people want to be nice to plants. Like I said before people would rather burn the world than try to work with plants.
In short there are better ways to make a point about humans being environmentally inept.

Re: The Happening (2008) Reviews
lolz... like i said, it was likely a "what if" scenario, not "watch out, because this could happen for real" scenario.

Re: The Happening (2008) Reviews
Haha.. I actually have both sensations.. I know exactly what JunGae's saying.. ie, that it makes you think of the environment.. and also I know exactly what ag's saying.. ie, the movie sucks so much that it's message is kinda lost..
I think M. Night's movies are going from Great to worse from movie to movie.. but I did appreciate this movie like jungae said.. just it sucked bad..
