Kimono costume... (My first runway post! :o)

So a few years ago my grandma made me this kimono (yukata?) for a Halloween costume. (I won two costume contests with it.) I really liked it but... I grew... I had to lengthen the obi by 6 inches. (well that doesn't have to do with growing but ANYWAYS) The kimono also got a little too short (for my taste anyways) so I decided to cut it off and hem it up to knee-length. ^^ I think it's cuter this way anyways. I'm a novice at sewing so I was pleased with the result. One of the sleeves got torn at the shoulder too, so I had to repair that.


Ok so not the best picture of me, but I think it shows the kimono pretty well...

Oh, and can somebody please explain to me the exact difference between a kimono and a yukata? >_< I don't want to be calling them by the wrong name for the rest of my life.
